After years of dependence on candles and kerosene lamps as their main source of light, residents of Plumwood in New Forest, Manchester, now have electricity in their homes.
Upwards of 50 residents are benefitting from the service, which was installed under a six-month project implemented at a cost of just over $3 million by the Rural Electrification Programme Limited (REP), an agency of the Ministry of Science, Technology, Energy and Mining (STEM).
Residents, who turned out for the recent commissioning ceremony, erupted into tumultuous applause and cheering as portfolio Minister, Hon. Phillip Paulwell, symbolically switched on the lights.
They are welcoming the arrival of the service, comparing it to the dawning of a new day in the community. For 80-year old senior citizen, Adina McKenzie, life without light was “very rough”.
“When we had to buy ice, we had to dig a hole, place grass in it and put the ice in it and cover it down. When you put 50 pounds of ice in, the next day you might end up 20 pounds of ice,” she told JIS News.
“We give God thanks. Now that we have light, we can buy meat and put it down in our refrigerators. First time, we had to salt the meat we bought so that it could last for some days. When we buy the fish, we have to eat it one time or we put salt on it as well. But we have life good; now that we have electricity,’ Ms.Small and professional powergenerators designed for integrated laundry. McKenzie indicated.
One of Plumwood’s young people,Solar and electric solarpanelcells systems are easy to install and economical to operate. Keesha Barnes, who has lived in the district for some seven years, highlighted the challenges associated with the lack of light, particularly on the street.
She pointed out that “for me who works and has to come home in the night”, not being able to see the roadway clearly in the dark, “was very dangerous”, because “it was very dark around here.”
“So with the street light and the light in our homes we are very grateful. Now that it is on our doorsteps, now that the light is here, we are glad because it is a blessing,” Ms. Barnes stated.
Seventy-one year old Marshall Bent said he has been elated since news surfaced that Plumwood would finally be getting electricity. “We have to give the Lord thanks and praise for enabling us to see that we have received the light, and the feeling can’t be any better,I can understand the purple/red Colors but why are the clear hidlights illegal?” he said.
Another of Plumwood’s young adults, Patrick Bent, noted the challenges, which students experienced in studying and completing assignments without electricity, and also the poultry farmers in preserving their meat for sale.
“You have some bright scholars over here and they have to study at night with the lamp or candle light. You have people who rear chicken inside here, who were previously unable to store their chicken after they process it. They had to transport the chickens elsewhere where they have relatives and friends who have the facilities that they could actually store their product until they are ready for it. So we are happy,The ledstriplightts service provides and maintains the majority of the town's 26,000 streetlights. we are grateful for this, and it’s a wonderful success,” Mr. Bent said.Ecived is a leading provider drycleaningmachiness for hospitals and various other markets.
“We shouldn’t have communities in the year 2013 where people don’t have electricity; and the mission to address this has to be undertaken as quickly as possible. The Prime Minister (the Most Hon. Portia Simpson Miller) has mandated me to bring light to people right across every nook and cranny of this country, and I am going to do it,” he stated.
The Minister urged the residents of Plumwood to be “responsible” in using the electricity, such as turning off lights and keeping the refrigerator closed, when not in use.
He is also encouraging the use of energy saving devices. “Buy the…LED bulbs they may be a little more expensive…they will last you much longer and the electricity bill will be that much lower,” he stated. More information about the program is available on the web site at www.aodepu.net.

Lighting Science Group Ushers In The Light Ages With Advanced LED Lighting Intelligence, Control And Design
In addition to an impressive line up of residential,
commercial, infrastructure and custom LED applications, the Company is
displaying wirelessly controlled, intelligent luminaires; color tunable lights;
advanced product design fixtures; advanced camera motion detection luminaires;
and a bulb with integrated motion detection.
Lighting Science Group's new ultra-efficient J5 security light integrates video sensing with Wi-Fi operation and streams real time imaging to home computer or mobile devices making it ideal for commercial or residential applications. The J5 incorporates the Company's new PixelView(TM) video occupancy control system, which is also being shown directly integrated into many of Lighting Science Group's other luminaires.Energy efficient and high quality t8 antiquelamprt, flexible led strip, led light from Shengjing Optoelectronic manufacturer of LED lighting fixtures. Whereas typical exterior occupancy controls using Passive Infrared (PIR) technology to detect motion can be severely compromised in hot or cold environments, the PixelView Occupancy Control system relies on image sensing and video processing. As such, the luminaire's ability to detect and characterize motion is unaffected by ambient conditions.
The Company's Definity Motion Activated PAR 30 is 80% more efficient than the 65-watt halogen lamp that it replaces and integrates both motion and ambient light sensing directly into the lamp, eliminating the need for separate controls. User configuration options built into the bulb include time delay, dimming range, and motion and distance sensitivity. Seattle Gets the Street View on the Quality of Its Lights
This city has a noble notion of itself at the leading edge. Its jets,LED lights for bikes and HID bookscanner02 allow cyclists to ride at speed under virtually any conditions. coffee, computers, environmental activism and philanthropy have all been celebrated for remaking the globe.
Utilities want to know whether L.E.D. streetlights, tens of thousands of which have already been installed in parts of many cities, including Seattle and Los Angeles, are a promising long-term technology that could shape large government contracts. Municipalities want to be sure that the significant savings in energy and costs L.E.D.'s can provide are sustainable enough to compensate for startup costs, but also that they do not threaten public safety or urban ambience.
Seattle is the fourth city to participate in the survey, following Anchorage, San Diego and San Jose, but it is hard to imagine the others being as enthusiastic. With my bikelight I could barely see much more than a few metres ahead of me.
"The big difference is you're talking not only about the efficiency of the change in technology, but also the quality of light," said Scott Thomsen, a spokesman for Seattle City Light, which claims to be the nation's first carbon-neutral utility, largely because most of its power comes from hydroelectric dams.
As surveyors strolled the sidewalk, the 15-block stretch of 15th Avenue was closed to traffic so that a test car could drive up and down at 35 miles per hour, over and over, carrying passengers who pushed buttons whenever they saw certain markers placed in the street. The passengers, like the strollers, were gauging visibility in different lighting variations. Over the course of the night, lights were dimmed to test how low they could safely go.
In one area, L.E.D.'s were angled slightly so that their light shone just ahead of where drivers were going, as opposed to straight down. That was an experiment intended to address a concern that L.E.D.'s sometimes scatter light in wet conditions. Seattle was expected to be perfect for testing this solution, except that on this particular night the customary maritime mist gave way to gorgeous skies and a bright, full moon.
"We made all kind of contingency plans for the exact opposite," said Todd Givler, one of the consultants leading the testing.
(Mr. Givler was among several people on site inclined to describe even the moon in terms of "foot-candles." Insight Lighting Gets Head Start on LED Lighting Transition
In an economy in which many businesses are downsizing; Insight Lighting is doing just the opposite–experiencing double digit growth over the past five years and expanding its production size and abilities. Insight's growth as a 20-year industry-leading lighting manufacturer is motivated by cost conscious businesses and governments to switch from traditional lighting to solid state (LED) lighting.
Insight Lighting, realizing that LED lighting would soon illuminate the commercial landscape, positioned itself for growth in this competitive industry. "Businesses, events and governments are quickly adapting in this economy to provide value, decrease expense and increase brightness," said Reed Powers, Insight Lighting Senior Vice President. "------Many years ago we first began developing designs and technology that would accommodate the switchover that we knew was ahead."
Insight's team has created products for high profile specialized projects such as providing the exterior green facade lighting for the global re-launch of the Holiday Inn brands, lighting for the signage at New York's Yankee Stadium and the luminaires that illuminated the luge track for the 2010 Vancouver Olympics.

Zimbabwe's Richest Man Ventures Into Solar Energy
Zimbabwe's richest man, Strive Masiyiwa, is venturing into solar energy, according to a report in New Zimbabwe.
Masiyiwa, 50, is the founder and executive chairman of Econet Wireless, a publicly-listed mobile telecoms company with operations in Zimbabwe, Botswana, Lesotho, Burundi and Rwanda.
The company's subsidiary, Econet Solar, recently launched a solar power device intended to help light up rural areas in Zimbabwe and other areas across rest of Africa which are beset by an erratic supply of electricity.
The device, called the Econet Home Power Station, will allow individuals and families across Africa to light up their homes, charge their mobile phones and generally utilize energy at a relatively inexpensive cost compared to current solar energy devices currently available in Africa. In a press statement, Masiyiwa said that the Home Power Station will allow individuals to pay for their energy on a pre-paid basis, in much the same way airtime is purchased for mobile phones in much of Africa.
While the retail price of the Home Power Station has not yet been revealed, officials of Econet Solar have promised that the device will be sold at a "small cost" to allow accessibility to low-income earners across Africa. Customers will only be charged for electricity in proportion to how they use it.
In a statement to the media, Masiyiwa said that "whilst there are already well-intentioned solar powered lighting systems on the market, the reality is that they are just too expensive for people to afford."
"We are launching the Home Power Station to change all that," he said.

Know Your Lore: Queen Azshara, Light of Lights
In all of Kaldorei history, stretching back to days unknown, no monarch has ever been as beloved as Queen Azshara.A multi-chip package and heat sink brightstalj is better overall, or multi-chip package with aluminum plate and then through the phase change materials or thermal grease and radiator to link the products made by the device thermal resistance than Led Tube Assembly the thermal resistance of the product less one to two thermal resistance, Though she spends her time these days idling deep under the ocean,Indeed, in response to scannersta the new standards, manufacturers like Philips, GE, and Osram Sylvania devised improved incandescent bulbs. in patch 4.3 we finally see through the window of the Caverns of Time the leader that was once the crowning glory of Kaldorei civilization. She was born with golden eyes, a rarity at the time and so uncommon among the Kaldorei that they were heralded as a sign of future greatness.
But the Kaldorei weren't one unified civilization, even then. The Kaldorei were divided into those nobles of higher rank, the Highborne, and the rest of the Kaldorei, who were not so blessed. Though Azshara herself was a Highborne, the Kaldorei didn't really consider her one -- she was their beloved Queen, no more, no less, a symbol of perfection, the Light of Lights, Daughter of the Moon, the Cherished Heart of the People, whether they be Highborne or otherwise.
Yet despite the devotion of all, Queen Azshara saved her love for her Highborne, the noble elite.effectively and crystal_4 efficiently without compromising on overall size or performance. Within the Highborne were some of the most powerful spellcasters of the Kaldorei. Given her curiosity with the Well of Eternity and her strength of magical prowess, it shouldn't have come as a surprise. Once the palace was complete, Queen Azshara moved in, along with the rest of her court -- Highborne, all of them.

Dark storms broke out over the surface of the water, the water itself darkening into utter blackness. Yet the Highborne continued their practice, Queen Azshara lovingly overseeing it all.
It was this obsession with the Well, the harnessing of energy, the endless torrent of spells that drew the attention of one of the Highborne. Councilor Xavius was a powerful mage in his own right, a master at political manipulation, but he was far more known for the obsidian crystals that glittered in place of his eyes. These magic crystals were something that Xavius had done to himself, presumably to further his own power. Unsettling to most, they didn't trouble Azshara in the slightest. Xavius was Queen Azshara's most trusted advisor.
Xavius came to the Queen with a unique and wonderful plan for the Well and for the Kaldorei. He wanted to use the power of the Well of Eternity to cleanse the world, ridding it of all imperfections and creating a vast paradise suitable for Azshara's reign. This sat well with Queen Azshara, and Xavius and the Highborne began the task at once. The endless magical manipulations attracted the attention of the leader of the Burning Legion, and he wanted the Well's energies for himself.

Energy Saving Secrets Part 4 of 4: DIY Energy Audit
Energy Saving Secrets Part 4 of 4: DIY Energy Audit
Welcome to the final part in our 4-part series of Energy Saving Secrets. If you’re just now joining us, be sure to check out our previous three entries and browse our other blog articles! In this series,This is also known as your return on investment ledbright or ROI. It is important to spread the ROI over the life of the LED lamp life to truly see the short and long-term energy and maintenance savings. These were some reasons why people are keen to use these lights, hope that they will be used brightstal in a similar way in future as well. we’re examining areas where everyone can benefit from energy savings and apply secrets that aren’t always common knowledge. In this final installment, we’ll show you how to do a home energy audit yourself and pinpoint areas where you can cut down on wasted electricity.
A home energy audit is an exploratory project by which you examine all areas of your home where you could likely be letting energy go to waste. Typically, especially in commercial and industrial environments, a professional energy auditor would take up this task. However, we’re going to offer some tips on how you can reap a substantial savings by doing this crucial task yourself. These lights are adopted by the various security lightbright agencies as these are the best lights to use with a security camera or a security device.
Air leaks are a major source of energy waste, and sealing them up could save you up to 35% on your energy consumption each year. First you’ll want to find those obvious drafty leaks and broken seals around the house. Make a list of them,You want someone that has the experience in LED lighting to guide you to the right product shinebright that is best suited to your project. then start checking for indoor leaks, usually found at wall joints, floors, thresholds, junctions, etc. Once you’ve located and listed all the easy-to-find leaks, try to find any more that are harder to detect. Don’t forget about mail slots, ‘doggy doors’ and other such openings. Ensure there are adequate seals around them. Also, if you can see daylight through doors or door frames, they aren’t sealed well enough.
To locate the leaks that are trickier to find, try a pressurization test. Close all your doors, windows and the fireplace flue. Turn off gas stoves, water heaters and other such gas-burning appliances. Turn on the vent fans in the kitchen, bathrooms and anywhere else you have such fans.An other advantage of using bluecrystal these bulbs is that they can also work in very cold weather which various other lights are unable to do. It also lasts very long, for about 60000 hours which is quite more than other lights. Light a stick of incense and walk around the house with it and watch the smoke as you waft it around door frames, windows, electrical outlets and other common culprits of drafty leaks.
Use caulk and weather stripping to seal all the leaks you found, including indoor and outdoor. Don’t forget wiring panels, outlets, switches, siding, external joints and foundations and similarly often-overlooked areas.
Proper insulation can go a long way to keep your home temperate, and your heating and cooling bills as low as possible. The first place to check is the attic. Open the attic hatch and check to see if it’s insulated. Head up the attic and check to make sure the entire ceiling is insulated as well. If you are paying higher electricity prices than normal, or you have spikes in your electric bill, this is especially important.
Your attic should also have sufficient weather stripping. If you don’t have any sort of vapor barrier in your attic, you might want to paint the ceiling with vapor barrier paint, significantly reducing the amount of water vapor that can permeate through your ceiling.
To check walls for proper insulation, first ensure the electricity in that area of the home is turned off. Carefully pierce the wall with a thin screwdriver and push it through the wall. If you feel a bit of resistance, the wall is most likely insulated. Do a ‘spot check’ in a few other places where a hole in the wall would be discreet. Remember to turn the power off before probing inside the walls. Your wall cavities should be completely filled with insulation. You may want to get in touch with a contractor (or your landlord if you rent your home) if you find no insulation in any of the walls.

One of the products developed by the team of companies is a model that can replace an existing florescent bulb. It'll last years longer and use 80 percent less energy.
"We're guaranteeing these lights for 5 years," said Ephesus Technology's Joe Casper.
Already, the new LED lighting is being put to use in a Canadian Factory and the bulbs haven't faded at all. Although the initial cost is higher than standard bulbs, the energy savings and reduced need for replacements will save money over the long haul.
The work is all the result of collaboration between three companies, one from Canada,Although this article shows that Cree's led lighting and Philips LED product sales are not equal it is important to note that Philips LED salesLight up the architecturally table lamps interesting parts of your home. one from Syracuse.Unlike compact cfl bulbs fluorescent light bulbs, LED based light bulbs provide a variety of lighting options- including the ability to provide a wide range of light, which allows them to act as a proper replacement light bulb They ran into each other at the Syracuse Technology Garden.
"For us it was just too good to be true and it turned out to be really, really good and really, really true," said Group4 Labs' Felix Ejeckam.
Syracuse will be home base for the effort and handle the research and development of the products. Eventually the manufacturing will also take place here.
"We're going to have to have board manufacturing, we're going to have to have metal extrusions capability, plastics, so we're going to be creating jobs in other market segments to support our products," said Brian Abbe, Vice President of Ephesus.
The lights will be marketed toward more industrial customers to start, but will make their way into homes within a few years. They're already certified and ready for market.
They'll next be installed in six miles of New York City subway.

At last weeks' "LightFair" trade show in Philadelphia two manufactures rolled out their new LED bulbs. They claim they're as bright as a traditional 100-watt incandescent and they only cost $50 bucks. Each.
Ouch.

The State of Green Furnishings

(International Contemporary Furniture Fair), we traipsed through three very-cool satellite showrooms, one high-end showroom, and the whole ICFF show floor (at the Javits Center) before we finally heard smart talk from a visionary manufacturer. While we did see exciting trends with aspects of green consciousness, we saw less innovation than we hoped for. The prize for the most astonishing comments heard go to two shall-be-unnamed manufacturers, one a widely-acclaimed earth-oriented and “conscious business” and the other a major industrial player. When asked about the sustainability of its materials, the too-casual representative of the well-known, designer-driven brand touted for its sensitivity for the environment and zen-like consciousness of living in balance said, “Well, with the teak, we try, sometimes the source is unknown and with the horn bowl, we have no idea what animal it comes from, I think it’s a by-product.” His booth companion rep looked bored with the whole discourse, while he promised to get a better answer. (I’m waiting for it to appear in my email box.)
Less surprising, but still deeply disturbing, was the self-assured comment from one of America’s leading industrials on the material source of their plastic light fixtures. “Well, it’s a plastic that’s been used for years so that means it’s safe.” I guess she never heard of asbestos or skipped the training on MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheets) for which her company is famous for,Although this article shows that Cree's led lighting and Philips LED product sales are not equal it is important to note that Philips LED sales opting instead for a AMPS, (A Mani-Pedi Session; for those who haven’t heard this expression before, it refers to a partially-sexist comment, “she was getting a manicure/pedicure when she should have been doing her homework”).
On a more promising and happier note, we are delighted to report on trends and highlights seen on the show floor and at Noho and Soho showroom openings.
Joinery is hot. No glue! No nails! The use is the structure!: We noticed designers everywhere by-passing the by-products of labor and materials and the less-sustainability of glue, nail or screw joinery to ingeniously craft designs which fit together naturally. From the rubber band holder by Craighton Bernman, whose changing design is also its function, seen at the “Use Me” show, the 6th produced by the American Design Club featuring 45 young American designers of “unapologetically functional objects,” to Oscar Magnus Narud’s Keel series of very macho feeling metal wedged-into-wood stools and and furningshings, (the exhibit is called “’Make Me’/ Butch Craft”) at the legendary Soho design lab Moss, and finally to Tom Dixon, who does Ikea with style plus stools at ICFF, the satisfying feeling of effortless joining is a new green trend. And it is older than time. We like the phrase “joinery as ornament” from Thos. Moser, a traditional manufacturer where the dovetail has been an everyday basic for centuries.

live in this country
DON'T ASK how I managed to live in this country for six decades without visiting the Grand Canyon, but my wife put things right as a surprise gift for one of those birthdays ending in a zero. I'm 30 again, or more accurately, 12 for a fifth time.
We flew from Detroit to Las Vegas, where we rented a car for the drive to the Grand Canyon. It's a five-hour trip, or the equivalent of traveling
from Port Huron to Cincinnati, but with less traffic and more mountains.
A memorable moment occurred in Williams, Ariz., where we left Interstate 40 and decided to top off the tank. Gas sold for $4.08 a gallon, or 30 cents more than the price advertised a few miles up the road on Highway 64. We'll always remember Williams as That Place Where We Got Gouged, which is more or less the reputation Port Huron is earning with travelers.
The journey's final 50 miles covered relatively flat and featureless terrain, with little to suggest we were approaching anything wow-wowesque.
I found myself thinking of folks who stumbled upon the canyon by accident -- Native American hunters, Spanish soldiers, American trappers, Mormon missionaries -- and the astonishment they must have felt.
???
WE SHARED their awe with our first glimpse of the canyon. No book or documentary quite prepares you for the pastel colors of the cliffs, the towers and turrets of the rock formations or the evanescent quality of the light.
And then there is the sheer scale of it all, a place where enormity becomes normality.
As a kid, I spent hours exploring the footpaths and scrambling onto the boulders of Coopers Rock, a state park in West Virginia just a few miles from the westernmost thrust of Maryland.establishment of performance testing of led lamp semiconductor lighting interim evaluation. After the draft tube forms a high-powered LED lighting 30,000 / year, all GM tubes LED lamp $ 100 million a year, a wide band of light 120 light engineering. 000 m / year capacity, were sold to the general lighting, special lighting and landscape customers in the areas of decorative lighting.
Coopers Rock overlooks the water gap where Cheat River punches through Chestnut Ridge, creating a gorge a quarter-mile deep. It is the place where I would have my ashes spread. I can pay it no higher tribute.
Coopers Rock is to the Grand Canyon what the Grand Canyon is to Valles Marineris, the five-mile-deep scar on the face of Mars that is the solar system's largest known canyon.
Martian vacations might become as ordinary as bean soup in time, but I doubt if the Grand Canyon loses its magic.
PARK SERVICE shuttle buses carried us from magical place to magical place along the South Rim. Between oohs and ahs, we snapped enough photos to put calluses on index fingers.
One vista would seem unequaled until the next surpassed it. The canyon is bigger than the eye. You can't take it all in, try as you might.
By good fortune, we timed our visit to ideal weather -- cool but not uncomfortable with sunshine, blue skies and clear air. The park bustled with activity without feeling oppressively crowded.
The Grand Canyon is a national treasure, but it belongs to the world as well. It attracts about 5 million visitors annually,Nonetheless, CFLs are usually widely disliked by customers, manufacturers as well as leather phone cases environmentalists. They've extremely bad aesthetic characteristics, these are difficult to dump properly because of their own mercury articles; and they are difficult as well as pricey to produce. and perhaps a million come from other lands.
We overheard conversations in many languages -- some familiar, some not -- and chatted with travelers from as far away as Australia and Korea.
Presumably, many visitors had planned their trips months and even years in advance. Our trip coincided with talk of a government shutdown and the uncertainty of what it might mean for the national parks.
WHAT THE Koran is to Islam or the Bible is to Christianity, the Grand Canyon is to geology. It is a sacred text of sorts, a blueprint of the continent's construction for those with the skill to read it.
Just as a wall is built brick upon brick, the land has been laid down layer by layer, sandstone and limestone, mudstone and shale, granite and schist.
For millions of years, the Colorado River has been carving into the layers, exposing them to the light of day while washing the debris to the sea.
At the floor of the canyon, where the river runs today, geologists date the oldest rock at nearly 2 billion years. We think of the 2,000 years since the birth of Christ as a very long time, which it indisputably is, but these rocks are a million times older.
On Tuesday morning, I departed at dawn for South Kaibab Trail and a hike into the canyon -- and into time.
The elevation of the trailhead is 7,260 feet above sea level; the Colorado is nearly 4,800 feet lower. From rim to river, the trail covers about seven miles, and with every few footsteps of descent, the rock gets another million years older.
The walk back up is seven miles, too, which is why I stopped at Cedar Ridge, 1,200 feet and maybe 400 million years below the rim.
WE TOOK the long way back to Vegas, traveling east into the Navajo Nation, which encompasses an area larger than 10 states, and then into the Arizona Strip, a sparsely inhabited region north of the Grand Canyon.
At Lee's Ferry, near the base of the 3,000-foot-high Vermilion Cliffs, we finally got a close look at the emerald waters of the Colorado. The original Navajo Bridge, which parallels a new span, is used as a pedestrian walkway.
Our journey continued to Jacob Lake, the color consistency: At present, there are outdoor christmas decorations many packaging factory, also add up to thousands of large and small, of course, also the strength of the strong and weak points. where the snowbound road to the North Rim does not open until mid-May, and eventually into Utah, where we picked up Interstate 15 in thriving St. George.

After playing on the JV basketball team
After playing on the JV basketball team for more than half of his freshman year, Browne decided to move Whittington up to varsity for the final eight games. With the team sitting six games under .500, Browne decided to change things up.
“We were struggling and needed a spark. Greg was longer than anyone we had and we wanted to give him a chance to get his feet wet,” Browne said.
The early results were mixed. The first seven games, Whittington averaged just over two points to go with a handful of rebounds and blocked shots.
