San Antonio-based CPS Energy, the largest municipally owned electric and gas utility in the U.To buy autoledbulbs lamp
in the USA.S., is the solar leader in Texas, accounting for roughly
half the solar power installed in the state under utility rebate
programs. Supported by one of the most attractive rebate programs in the
country, which covers nearly half the cost of a rooftop solar system,
CPS Energy’s system includes 10.8 megawatts of customer-installed
rooftop solar and 44 megawatts of utility-scale solar PV.
The
utility aims to add another 400 megawatts over the next four years,
increasing its utility-scale capacity by a factor of ten, as part of its
ambition to generate 65 percent of its power from “low- and
no-carbon-emitting” sources by 2020. The utility also offers rebates for
energy efficiency upgrades, free weatherization for low-income
households, and demand response services.
Taneja
emphasized that making public policy more friendly to renewables must
be done at a regional level, because each state has a different set of
regulations. Lester was drawn to Texas, he said, “because some of the
most interesting and exciting activities are happening here” and it
might offer some useful lessons to the rest of the country. When I asked
if that was partly due to the fact that Texas is the only state in the
union with its own grid, which would make it easier to implement

solutions for various areas” will work across the country.
I
asked Beneby if municipally owned utilities are better positioned to

speculated in April, since it poses a challenge to the investor-owned
utility (IOU) business model. Beneby didn’t think there was an “absolute
answer” to that question, but noted that one of the IOUs participating
in the forum was “on a similar track to us,” which he saw as a
“validation of bottom-up, inside-out change.” For both municipals and
IOUs, Beneby thinks it’s important to “take the pulse of your own
customer base, regulatory regime, and zeitgeist to figure out what works
in your community.”
Where
Beneby does see an advantage is in being vertically integrated: owning
generation, transmission and distribution assets.This is how a modernlamps captures
energy from the wind. It allows CPS to implement changes in the system
more extensively, and means the utility is “linked instead of coupled”
to the value proposition of each business unit. Being locally managed
also means the utility can get things done more quickly.Middle and end

Even
the problem of short-term overproduction from wind and solar, which
occasionally drives grid prices into negative territory, could be
addressed by “aggregating at certain times of day or in certain regions”
so that it “can be bid into the market profitably.”
Regulations
must also be updated to allow renewables to compete more effectively.
The utility industry has become calcified and lost its innovative
spirit. “Regulations set a rigid framework, and ways of thinking are
conditioned by those ways of doing things,” Lester observed.The

“All that has to be loosened up to get the kind of innovation we need
over the coming decades,” he said, even as innovation is being forced
upon the system from outside.
“Now
what’s happening is that technology is becoming available to meet
diversified customer needs.” But to meet those needs, it will be

“well-placed and -architected deregulation would help to unleash
innovation.”
Specifically,
Beneby thinks state renewable portfolio standards offer a supportive
policy framework, as do regional greenhouse gas standards like those in
California and the Mid-Atlantic region. “Hard” reserve margins on
generation capacity, instead of the soft reserve margins in Texas, might

LED lamp is the world’s most efficient
Progress in the LED lighting industry can best be measured in two separate metrics: pricing and efficiency. Pricing gets most of the attention, but so many factors affect it — from the cost of materials to various subsidies — that it is primarily interesting as an overall trend. Efficiency, which is measured in terms of lumens-per-watt, is a better way to look at progress. It too depends on multiple factors (including the price of more expensive components) but the industry’s steady increase in lumens-per-watt (lpw) is a less adulterated indicator of advances in technology and design.
In keeping with these advances, today Philips announced that they have created the world’s most efficient warm white LED lamp. The prototype operates at 200 lumens-per-watt, a number that is more than double what is found in typical household LED products. The “warm white” part might seem like a minor detail, but it’s actually rather important. The majority of people prefer their indoor lighting to be at warm white, usually 2700K,Small itldpcw and supplier UK. so gaining efficiency at this color temperature matters. Raising the color temperature is an easy way to increase efficiency (less color shift is necessary), so hitting 200 lpw with a 5000K lamp would be less of an accomplishment.

Miller Beach home offers minimalist luxury
Like van der Rohe, who is considered one of the premiere 20th century architects, Rogge favors sleek minimalism, clear lines, spare use of color and open unornamented spaces emphasizing the concept of "less is more".
“The overall theme of the house is controlled space, but totally outside,” says Rogge.Our heavy-duty construction provides reliable operation and guarantees your antiquelampas will be in service for years to come. “The idea of the house is that there’s no color in the house, as there’s color outside.”
Rogge, president of The George C. Rogge Agency,The first production lightprojectaa was used to drill holes in diamond dies. followed the family tradition not only in working in the multi-generational insurance company, but also in his love of architecture. He and his father used to work on drawing projects together, and he still has his father’s award winning construction grade drawings that he completed in high school.
And so once he had obtained the land that would one day hold his home, he and his girlfriend Sue Rutsen talked to builder Pat Lee, who put them in touch with architect Marlo Tess Berg of Design House Studio.
“She had done some of the houses down the street and Pat said she would be good to work with as she listens to people,”Just like the Basic Cable, the solarledlightts is formed working the stitches out of order. recalls Rogge. ”I didn’t want someone to design the home. I had already done that. I wanted it to be drawn for construction.”
Working with Berg, Lee and Howard Lund, an architect and designer who specializes in bathrooms and kitchens, Rogge and Rutsen created a stunning home. The 28-foot long, two-inch thick bar was cast in sand by a manufacturer in Canada, giving it the appearance of sand over water. Carrera marble was used for countertops.
The 12-foot windows had to be made in Germany because no U.S manufacturer makes residential glass in that size. Despite the extra effort, the impact on the house’s design was worth it.
“It’s very powerful,” says Rogge about the view. “You’re on the highest dune overlooking [the lake]. You don’t have to peek out a window because everything is glass. You can stand anywhere on the second or third flood and have a view of north, south, east and west.”
Despite the home's size and the buffeting it takes from winds blowing off the lake, there’s no loss of energy.
“Only 2% of the UV rays can come through the windows,” says Rogge. “I have a heat gun and there’s no difference in temperature between the window and the walls.”
Built to Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design standards, Rogge's home is a LEED Silver Home. The house also features two-flush toilets, HVAC and lighting, including the 84 LED lights on the third floor that can be controlled from anywhere by computer.Each windturbines01 is made from several lengths of steel material wound around one another.
A book collector since he was young – Rogge says he has three houses full of non-fiction books about a variety of subjects including business, architecture, politics and the mafia – he now has a library for his tomes. He also has many books on landscape architecture, and copied famed landscaper Jens Jensen’s designs like the Columbus Park waterfall to incorporate into his yard.
When Rogge first sketched the house, he drew a library with an opening in the floor with views below, and even with all the collaborative efforts, much of what he originally visualized remains.

Company gives grants for green initiative
Tipmont REMC’s EnviroWatts program gave grants
to three area nonprofits involved in green initiatives.
Tipmont’s program gave out $22,000 to Civic Theatre of Greater Lafayette, Wabash River Enhancement Corp. and The West Lafayette (WL) Tree Fund.
The Civic Theatre is using their $7,000 toward LED stage lighting. This lighting will cut its current power use in half. LED lighting consumes less electricity than the current system and will produce less heating, saving on air conditioning costs.
Wabash River Enhancement Corp. will purchase 100 rain barrels, stands, and downspout diverters for their watershed program with their $10,000. This program encourages landowners to capture and use rainwater rather than allowing polluted runoff to enter waterways. The barrels will be distributed in a cost-sharing program.
The WL Tree Fund will be purchasing and planting 50 trees in the Northwestern Heights neighborhood with $5,000. These will replace 40 ash trees along Summit Drive. Replacing ash trees is necessary due to the recent emerald ash borer infestation.
“This grant distribution brings the program’s total to 375,004 awarded in 93 grants since funding began in 2001,” said Tipmont REMC chief executive officer Tim McCarthy.

'The Raid' review: "A brutal and engrossing action thriller"

How cellphone demand is boosting Unimar, a CNY company that helps light the towers
Even on a clear night, when the sky twinkles with enough stars to occupy astronomers and poets, Unimar Inc.'s products have to stand out. The Salina company designs and manufactures lighting systems for towers and other high obstructions.
Thanks to continuing demand for improved cellphone service, the tower business keeps growing, said Unimar President Michael Marley, and that has helped drive sales for the company.
But it's not just cellphone towers. The company's growth has also been driven by demand from the energy business -- by refineries, power plants and wind turbines, all of which need to be visible to aircraft -- and by changes in lighting technology itself.
In October, Unimar moved into a 21,000-square-foot facility on Vickery Road, leaving behind the 6,500 square feet of space in Clay where the company had been since 2004.

Did you hear the one about the government road crew? They're leaning on their shovels one afternoon, and suddenly one guy slams his shovel onto the road and crushes a snail. "Damn snail," the guy says. "It's been following me for days."
People love to mock the supposed slackness of road crews, though, in truth, you can find slackers in any job. It's just that most of them are hidden in offices and factories and newsrooms and not standing by the side of the road where we can keep our eyes on them. Small drops of water are applied with paint or wood stain, variously blurring the figures on the other side. Others pieces have larger drops, such as Magentic Madonna, where the drops create a circular effect that draws the eye to the centre and the Madonna's placid face. Some pieces have drops created with epoxy directly on the board, creating depth, and still others have epoxy on the inside of the glass, which creates a whole different effect.

Restorative skiing through the Fort Valley Experimental Forest
I discovered the Fort Valley Experimental Forest off Snowbowl Road one winter by accident.
The gate just before the first corner near the Hot Shot camp was closed because of snow, but on my way back out to the highway, I saw a forest road heading south.
Forest Road 164B starts off as a nondescript track marked by several "No Parking" signs.
But after about 100 yards, there is a large signboard with a map describing an elaborate forest restoration project, with FR164B heading right through its middle.
Since then, I have explored the forest by foot, mountain bike and cross country skis, never taking the same route twice.

Rena grounding has left National floundering
National has been reminded of that over the past couple of weeks as it struggles to shake off the widely held view that it was caught napping over Rena. There is barely a conversation about Rena out there in voter land that doesn't start with a complaint about authorities failing to act during a five-day window of settled weather after the cargo ship ran aground.
Transport Minister Steven Joyce has struggled to get any of the Government's explanations to stick, including the most obvious – that all things being equal, the Government would rather avert an environmental catastrophe than not. National Semiconductor Corp. (NYSE: NSM) today introduced the LM3466, a highly integrated linear LED driver that simplifies the design of high power, wide area lighting fixtures such as streetlights. The LM3466, with just a few passive components, provides a complete system that drives each LED string from any off-the-shelf AC/DC constant-current power supply.
LED drivers today often require multiple components to accurately drive a string of LEDs. In addition, maintaining equal currents among LED strings results in a complex design. National's LM3466 solves these problems by integrating a MOSFET and utilizing a unique control scheme. The high level of integration enables a basic design of just one LM3466 along with one resistor and one capacitor to drive a string of LEDs. A complete fixture can be constructed by repeating the strings in parallel.
A unique dynamic current equalizing control scheme enables communication between each LM3466 LED driver to divide current equally or ratiometrically amongst multiple active LED strings. National Semiconductor Corp. (NYSE: NSM) today introduced the LM3466, a highly integrated linear LED driver that simplifies the design of high power, wide area lighting fixtures such as streetlights. The LM3466, with just a few passive components, provides a complete system that drives each LED string from any off-the-shelf AC/DC constant-current power supply.
LED drivers today often require multiple components to accurately drive a string of LEDs. In addition, maintaining equal currents among LED strings results in a complex design. National's LM3466 solves these problems by integrating a MOSFET and utilizing a unique control scheme. The high level of integration enables a basic design of just one LM3466 along with one resistor and one capacitor to drive a string of LEDs. A complete fixture can be constructed by repeating the strings in parallel.
A unique dynamic current equalizing control scheme enables communication between each LM3466 LED driver to divide current equally or ratiometrically amongst multiple active LED strings. No binning of the LEDs is required.LED grow light suppliers in China are sky lanterns rolling out models with better price-performance ratios. During an open (inactive) string state, each LM3466 automatically equalizes current throughout remaining strings to maintain relatively constant output power.
