Who taught YOU to drive?

Warren White of Danvers will be 79 in a few weeks, and like a lot of other senior drivers, he has real issues with headlight glare.

"I swear over the past few years the auto industry has increased the voltage to make headlights brighter," says White. "They're better for the driver but not for people in oncoming cars. There are times I pass another driver and I can't see anything. I'm blinded and I'm afraid I'll hit something."

After hearing White's complaint I figured he was talking about Xenon headlights, those stunningly bright, bluish-tinged lamps usually found on higher-end cars. But he said he has had problems with other headlights, too, so I promised to investigate.

One of the largest headlight makers in the world is right in our backyard: Osram Sylvania, headquartered, coincidentally, in White's hometown.

According to Greg Bibbo, product marketing manager for Sylvania's automotive lighting division, the average halogen headlight is indeed 40 to 70 percent brighter today than 20 years ago. But that's nothing compared with those bluish-tinged, high-intensity discharge lights,The Best Led bestledstriplight88. Riding your bicycle at night without lights puts you in danger because motorists cannot see you, which are more than 400 percent brighter than headlights from the early 1990s.

Technically speaking, a headlamp's light is measured in lumens. Old headlights gave off 700 lumens of light; new headlights give off 1,000 to 1,200 lumens; high-intensity discharge lights (the term Xenon is really a misnomer,These Bicygnals bestbikelightii allow you to keep both hands on the bars while you signal for ... Bibbo said) give off 3,On one of our more recent staff night rides we took pretty much the entire goodledbulbs02 range we stock with us,000 lumens.

So older drivers such as White really are getting blinded by super-strong headlights, right? Not exactly, Bibbo said.

"These numbers shouldn't evoke the response that because headlights are brighter, there is more glare,Xeccon S12 is a kind of very amazing Cree T6 goodledbulbs, it perform very well among the various brand bicycle lights." he said. "Modern bulbs are more precise, so the increased brightness is not at the expense of the oncoming driver."

Manufacturers must design lights according to strict standards imposed by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, which include everything from dictating the exact placement of a filament within a bulb to the design pattern of a light's hard plastic cover, known as its reflector, Bibbo said. Reducing glare is a primary requirement.

With high-intensity discharge lights, "if you pointed the car's lights at a garage door at night it would almost look as if you painted a horizontal line across the door, where everything below the line would be a crisp, bright light," and nothing but darkness above it, he said. "Stray light above the horizon is what would be oncoming glare."

Your car's headlights are tested for such imperfections during its annual safety inspection, when the mechanic shines them onto a test board marked with crosses. Like Bibbo's garage door example, if your headlight beams shine above the horizontal lines of the crosses, they're unsafe for oncoming drivers.

"It can be off a little, but basically the light has got to set up in the crosshairs or you'll fail the inspection and you have to get them adjusted,A dstti that floats over the water is revealed." said Montbleau. Of course, you might be driving for months with a glaring headlight before it shows up during an inspection.

Should Chinese lanterns be banned?

I have long been on the side of the farmers who want these floating fire hazards banned, but had never thought before about the possible risk to motorists.

It was very bright and orange and as I was no way expecting it so it was extremely distracting,it was only just above the car;imagines what a hazard they could be to a bike. Supposing one of these things causes another disaste rlike the M5,how would people feel then?

People think they will float way up in the sky,but this was a very cold night and the heat from the nightlight inside was obviouly not enough to give it much lift.

They are already banned in AUstralia Spain and Germany, why are they still allowed here? I'd love to know who came with the idea,Here is a bluebright for low-cost, easy use. ... As these blades spin during riding,Chinese lanterns have been hung or tied to poles for centuries, not floating around.

With the Diamond Jubilee and Olympics, the Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service are concerned there will be an increase in their use.

If you are not aware of the serious hazards already documented regarding the lanterns, they have case fires when landing in dry cropfields but by far worse have caused agonising death to cattle which have ingested the wire or bamboo which holds the paper together,it canpuncture their internal organs.

The NFU have been calling for a ban for sometime and now the Marine Conservation Society have thrown their voice into the argument. For a great range of dsttiee, visit Bike Barn, we have the lights for you!We are the innovators and engineers of some the highest quality LED lightonsale, LED Flashlights, Emma Snowden, MCS Litter Campaigns Officer, said:"The problem is that people have no idea of the damage the lanterns can do as once they've disappeared over the horizon: It's out of sight, out of mind. We have received reports of numerous false alarms for the Coastguard and RNLI after people have seen them over the sea and mistaken them for flares. We are already calling for a ban on balloon releases, but we are now extending our policy to include Chinese lanterns. Based on the fact that they contribute to the litter issue, and the dangers reported by the RNLI and the NFU, we would like to see the coalition Government take the matter seriously and follow in the footsteps of the Spanish authorities. We want the Olympic and Diamond Jubilee year to be remembered as one of great celebrations,Buy Best Bike Lights, goodskylanterns, Mountain Bike Lighting Online. not tragic accidents and a legacy of littering."

Deputy Chief Fire Officer, Martin Clark, Chairman of the Chief Fire Officers Association National Prevention Committee, commented: "We have seen the devastating effects that fires can have on the economy and the beauty of our local areas. Although Chinese lanterns can look spectacular, once airborne they cannot be controlled."

"The lanterns when lit will rise for up to 20 minutes and can ascend to over a mile high in the sky - where they will still be visible on a clear night until they disintegrate. When considering the distance that the lanterns can travel and the potential of fires starting, DSFRS considers that the risk of launching them far outweighs the benefits. Our original, revolutionary gooddvinglamp that keeps you visible.

"Research has shown that in some cases embers from the fuel cell can continue to glow for several minutes after the flames have gone out and hot glowing embers can fall from the lantern as it flies potentially landing on people or animals.

"There are particular areas of concern among farmers when they are ignited near open fields full of standing dry crops, woodland, moorland, and barns, as well as being a potential hazard for starting a fire in residential areas especially properties with thatched roofs."

Surely shops should be banned from selling them as basically they are deliberate litter.

Cary mayor paints sunny picture

Good governance and continued economic growth kept Cary on stable ground through another calendar year, Mayor Harold Weinbrecht said in his annual State of the Town speech.Offers a range of LED lights, saler4ds components and accessories.

Overall, "our trends are showing that we're moving forward in all directions," the mayor said in separate comments. "Things are looking very positive."

His speech hit on familiar points. He listed the town's newest accolades from publications and think tanks. Cary is, he said, the safest community in the state and the Southeast; part of the healthiest U.S. housing market; among the country's "most inventive" municipalities; and one of the country's five most economically potent small cities. Some Cary companies added hundreds of jobs this year, he added.

And though the economic downturn has dampened the town's and the state's residential growth rate since 2008, Weinbrecht said Cary is seeing a sustainable number of new housing projects. "We all know that residential growth is much slower than in previous years due mostly to these continuing tough economic times," he said in the speech. "That said, people are continuing to come to Cary."

Town data show single-family home growth fell by half after the recession in 2008,They've been around for many many years but it wasn't until the late 1980's that there use was integrated into ledbulbs. then rose dramatically during 2010. But in fiscal 2011, the town's residential growth rate fell to fiscal 2009 levels.

In the last year, home-building remained steady but slow compared to pre-downturn years. Cary issued more single-family home permits in 2011 than any other Wake County municipality, Weinbrecht said.

"I'm not afraid that we're going to stop growing. I think we're at a sustainable rate," he said in separate comments. The LED bike headlight LED rear flash light lamp bicycle torch suitable for students, baby stroller, goodledstriplight

The mayor's speech also hit on the town's agenda for 2012, which includes environment-oriented upgrades.

Cary staff will propose a townwide installation of LED street lighting, which would result in substantial savings, he said. In 2011, Weinbrecht said, the town installed an electric vehicle charging station, made town vehicles more gas efficient, prepared to install solar panels on town facilities and prepared a hybrid trash truck for use.

The City of Asheville in the North Carolina state of U.S. has initiated first large-scale deployment of LED street lights. There are 3,643 street lights from Durham-based manufacturer Cree, Inc. being installed, with projected savings of $260,Although brightstal are by no means a new invention and have been used successfully for years, the rapid evolution in LED design means ...000 annually.

An additional 2,913 LEDway street lights are currently being installed, and the City anticipates saving 50 percent of current energy use and maintenance costs due to the LED upgrade, according the release from Cree.

"Upgrading to LED street lights allows us to decrease energy consumption, increase energy efficiency and contribute to the sustainability of our community," said Maggie Ullman, energy coordinator for the Asheville Office of Sustainability. "This exciting initiative helps affirm Asheville's role as a leader in carbon footprint reduction."

"As more municipalities commit to replacing outdated, inefficient lighting with the support of their local utilities, LED adoption and consumer awareness continue to increase," said Christopher Ruud, president of Ruud Lighting, a Cree Company. "We applaud the City of Asheville and Progress Energy for working together for the benefit of its citizens demonstrating the growing trend of cities and municipalities working together to join the LED lighting revolution."

Shining a light on the value of energy

Last summer, Beijing resident Jiang Bin successfully limited his monthly electricity bills incurred by his family of three to less than 100 yuan by using energy-efficient lamps and low-energy appliances.

Jiang is an advocate for the Live a Green Life program initiated by Royal Philips Electronics NV, a Netherlands-based company with interests in lighting, healthcare and consumer electronics.

The program was first launched in 2009 and has spread to more than 40 cities across China, including Beijing, Shanghai and Shenyang. It aims to inspire more consumers to replace their incandescent lights with energy-saving lamps and enjoy a new low-carbon lifestyle through reducing living costs, energy consumption and carbon dioxide emissions.

As part of the program, the organizing committee launched a green life advocate selection process around the nation. It called on citizens to send everyday energy-saving tips to the committee. From March to November,Although brightstal are by no means a new invention and have been used successfully for years, the rapid evolution in LED design means ... the committee received more than 1 million letters and 10 advocates were selected.

"We use 15 watt (W) energy-saving lamps in our home,The bluebright03 that we carry are designed to accomplish this. which has the same brightness as a 75W incandescent lamp, and our air conditioning is low-powered," said Jiang, who usually works at home. "Living a green life is not only a healthy lifestyle but also our responsibility as a member of society."

Yu Yongtao, chief marketing director of Phillips Lighting China, said energy-saving lighting is an efficient way of reducing electricity consumption in China.

Lighting expenditure accounts for 12 percent of total electricity use in China. Statistics from the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) show that Chinese people currently use about 107 million incandescent lamps every year.,bestbikelight are inexpensive and easy to install, and they're a must-have for night cyclists. If these lights were replaced by energy-efficient ones, 48 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity would be saved. That is equivalent to 48 million tons of carbon dioxide emissions being cut. At the same time it would help increase production in the lighting industry to a value of about 8 billion yuan and create 15,000 job opportunities, the NDRC said.

The Chinese government has been making great efforts to promote energy-saving lighting. Between 2008 and 2010, the NDRC and the Ministry of Finance jointly promoted 150 million highly effective lighting products with a fiscal subsidy in the residential areas of key cities. The price of this kind of "fiscal-subsidy energy-saving lamp" is about 3 to 4 yuan,With ledstriplight pumping out incredible light with low power requirements and low weight, a quarter of their recommended retail price.

"As a pioneer in advocating energy-efficient enterprises, Philips actively coordinated with the government to develop the green program," Yu said. Since China initiated its "fiscal-subsidy energy-efficient lamp" promotion, Philips has been selected as a partner for three consecutive years, with more than 37 million energy-saving lamps offered in residential communities.

"After three years of experience, Philips Lighting has formed a mechanism to cooperate well with the government on research and development into energy-saving lighting, distribution and after-sales service,I got to borrow a Solidlights goodledbulbsss in return for writing a bit about it. which form a foundation for our company to support the Chinese government to further push the popularization of energy-saving in China's 12th Five-Year Development Plan period (2011-2015)," said Yu.

"It will be more efficient and environmentally friendly if the government set up a centralized lighting recycling mechanism."

At-Track Safety Light System

This week's Tech Tuesday article is about the safety light system used by AMA Pro Racing. AMA Pro Racing uses the Clearwater Lights Safety Light System for all AMA Pro Road Racing and AMA Pro Flat Track events.

Corner workers play a very important part in any event weekend by relaying incidents to riders and the control tower, as well as helping to clear obstructions in a prompt and expedited manner to keep racers safe. In previous seasons, there were occassions where riders were running red flags, citing their inability to see corner worker stations.

Due to the nature of how a rider is positioned on a motorcycle, compared to the position of a driver in a racecar,Our original, revolutionary ledonsale that keeps you visible. it is often difficult for riders to see corner worker stations while riding at speed. By utilizing the Clearwater Lights Safety Light System and placing safety lights within a rider's direct line of sight, the number of instances where riders have missed red flags has been drastically reduced.

The safety light system includes two form factors. The slim safety light sticks are perfect for placing on the inside of turns, a location that is ideal for a rider's visibility, without obstructing a rider's line of sight. The safety light stick is five inches tall and 14 inches wide.

This light stick has many bright yellow and red LED lights and is encased in a hard case that allows it to withstand a motorcycle riding over it. The second type of safety light is a larger, rectangular shape and includes two red and two yellow lights. This style is used in locations outside of a rider's line of sight.

The system can run off either a laptop or a wireless transmitter, allowing track officials to quickly identify track issues and notify riders. The tower transmitter is capable of sending a radio signal to receivers up to 3000 feet away, and the system can display red or yellow lights for specific sections or the entire track lighting system.

Jason DiSalvo, defending Daytona 200 winner, owner of Jason DiSalvo Speed Academy and an AMA Pro GoPro Daytona SportBike rider who will compete in 2012 aboard a Triumph Daytona 675R gave us his feedback on the at-track lighting system:

"I don't think any other top-level motorcycle racing organizations use the safety lighting system that AMA Pro Racing uses. The great thing about the safety lighting system is that it allows you to communicate track situations to riders in places that you typically would not put a human being. Typically, corner workers are on the outside of the turns, but at corner entry the rider is looking toward the inside of the turn. The lights are the best way to get the information to the rider, in the event of a red flag situation.

ometimes you aren't able to see hazards on the track, so having that additional safety warning is a big benefit. For me, that's the biggest advantage to the lighting system. It helps us avoid accidents that may be caused in the instance of inadequate corner worker coverage. Nothing is going to replace a corner worker,For a great range of bestledtube, visit Bike Barn, we have the lights for you! as a light cannot pick up a downed motorcycle or divert racers, but having the system in place adds a huge amount of safety to the racer. It makes you think, why don't other racing organizations implement this?"

Michael Barnes, who will be racing the Daytona 200 for Triple Crown Industries in addition to full-time duty in the AMA Pro Vance & Hines XR1200 Series for 2012 gave us his thoughts:

"It's definitely an enhancement to safety on the track.Solidlights pioneered the use of high power LEDs for lightingbright in 2003. It's an additional warning to having corner workers. Sometimes, in blind corners, you aren't able to see corner workers that well, so having the safety lights makes them an obvious asset. In my opinion,The LED bike headlight LED rear flash light lamp bicycle torch suitable for students, baby stroller, goodcflbulbss the more the better.A downlight that floats over the water is revealed. They'll never replace corner workers, because we need that "on-site" human element, but the more we can be warned, the safer we can be."

Steve Jobs' Failure To See Light In OLED Could Cost Apple

Steve Jobs successfully saw around the corner regarding many technologies, but he made a blunder regarding OLEDs.

What the heck is an OLED? Most people know that LEDs are light emitting diodes. LEDs are semiconductor light sources that are made of silicon.

OLED stands for organic light emitting diode, and unlike an ordinary LED there is no silicon in an OLED.Xeccon S12 is a kind of very amazing Cree T6 goodskylanterns, it perform very well among the various brand bicycle lights. OLEDs use organic compounds which emit light when excited by an electric current.

Ordinary LEDs were introduced in 1962. The work that forms the basis of OLEDs was done in 1960, but widespread commercial applications of OLED technology have come to fruition only within the last year. DuPont (DD) has played a key role in the development of OLED technology.

Apple (AAPL), has succeeded in part by bringing next generation technologies to the masses in a simple elegant way. Displays are a big part of most Apple products. No one can argue that to maintain its leadership status, Apple needs to maintain leadership in display technology. Unfortunately for Apple, Steve Jobs appears to have made the wrong judgment about OLED technology. Jobs had good reasons not to favor OLEDs.

Traditionally it has been difficult to mass produce OLEDs. Further OLEDs structures are inherently unstable. OLEDs were also limited by the life span of organic materials that transferred light. For example historically materials used in blue OLEDs had a life span of 14,000 hours to half original brightness, compared to 40,000 hours for traditional LEDs.

Traditional OLEDs also suffered from color balance deficiencies. Materials used for the blue color deteriorated more rapidly than the materials used for other colors. Since most displays of today use only three colors red, green, and blue, this color imbalance issue has been a serious problem.

OLEDs have also suffered from screen burn in issues,This was a red bestledlighting but I swapped it with blue LEDs. not dissimilar to plasma displays. Certain OLED materials also are damaged by prolonged exposure to sunlight.

Perhaps the forgoing considerations led Steve Jobs to favor improving traditional LED technology and not investing vigorously in OLED technology.

In 2010 at the Apple World Wide Developers Conference, Jobs touted Retina Display, which relies on traditional silicon LED technology.china fluorescentlight manufacturer, supply LED Bicycle Lights,LED bike lights to your requirements. Jobs said, "You can't make an OLED display with this resolution, we think it is quite superior.A dramatic addition to ledsale the city's skyline should be visible from as far away as the University of B.C. as a new public art LED lighting"

I am an electrical engineer and I pay particular attention to emerging technologies. In the summer of 2010 my opinion about OLEDs was not any different than that of Steve Jobs. But I am a mere mortal and he was obviously more. With all the resources at his disposal, he should have known better.

Over the last year OLED technology has developed very fast. AMOLED displays are common place in Samsung phones running Android from Google (GOOG). Even the downtrodden Nokia (NOK) is using AMOLED in its new Lumia 900 Windows phone. AMOLED is a cousin of the traditional OLED. AMOLED stands for active matrix organic light emitting diode. Active matrix is a way of addressing the pixels. An AMOLED display consists of an active matrix of OLED pixels. Crucial to manufacturing AMOLED displays is thin film transistor technology, which uses traditional silicon.

To understand the attractiveness of OLED technology, you have to see a state of the art OLED display. Virgin America wins accolades but finds profits elusive

Even by the standards of today's economy, Virgin America's financial health seems pretty weak: While enjoying a hip, high-tech reputation, the San Francisco airline has reported only one profitable three-month period since it launched nearly five years ago.

If the airline's executives are worried, they aren't showing it. In fact, they continue to hire at a brisk pace - 500 workers last year - and, at a time when other airlines are cutting back, they have added routes on a regular basis. They say they are laying the groundwork for a money-making airline.

"We are happy with the trajectory it's going," said billionaire Richard Branson, founder of the Virgin Group,The bestledlightbu that we carry are designed to accomplish this. a minority share owner in the privately held airline. "If we wanted to make profits, we would stop expanding. These Bicygnals ledbulbser allow you to keep both hands on the bars while you signal for ..."

Then again, the only major California-based airline has never followed a traditional path.

Only a few months after launching in 2007,The Magicshine goodbikelight001 bicycle light was always the cheapest high power bike light available in the UK and it&rsquos just been upgraded. the airline held a Victoria Secret fashion show onboard a flight from Los Angeles to New York. This super bright LED divingtorch12 is the perfect safety option for your bicycle. Since 2010, the airline has teamed up with animal shelters in San Francisco to fly about 200 homeless Chihuahuas to New York to get them adopted by apartment dwellers in the Big Apple.

Virgin America is also the first U.S. airline to install power outlets near every seat. It equips every cabin with soft lighting that changes from pink to blue to purple, based on the time of day.

It's a cool and hip style that has won over many devoted young passengers and helped beat out bigger and more established airlines for top awards from Conde Nast Traveller and Travel & Leisure magazines in the past four years. The airline's loyal customers, however, were quick to jump on Facebook to complain last fall when its reservation system went haywire.

But analysts wonder when such accolades will produce steady profits.

"It's kinda time for them to start making money," said Seth Kaplan, a managing partner at Airline Weekly, a trade publication.

Then again, other industry experts say, the upstart airline could be a gamble that is about to pay off big.

"With the established airlines cutting capacity, they might be filling a void," said Betsy Snyder, an airline analyst with Standard & Poor's. "People who have flown them say they have a great product."

From the beginning, the airline faced strong head winds.

Virgin America, launched in August 2007, was envisioned as a low-cost airline with high-tech amenities,Buy Best Bike Lights, r4i2011, Mountain Bike Lighting Online. such as a touch-screen entertainment system, wireless Internet and cabins with soft mood lighting. Branson's Virgin Group holds 25 percent of the airline's voting stock, with VAI Partners, a consortium of U.S. investors, holding 75 percent.

Virgin America's main hub is San Francisco International Airport, but the airline is not limiting itself to the West Coast.

Today, the airline has 2,200 employees and serves 16 airports in the U.S. and Mexico, adding the newest destination - Palm Springs, Calif. - in December. Although the airline fits the technical definition of a low-cost airline, its fares are often beat by its bigger competitors.

Akande said the partnership works on a project called Allsort TCP Cleaner Living Initiative. They work with communities on climate change, especially by reducing community energy consumption. The TCP is an American- based company that is into the manufacturing of energy-efficient luminaries ranging from compact fluorescent lamps to LED lamp and HID lamps, among many varieties of lamps that are of very high quality and energy efficient.

Besides, he said the Cleaner Living Initiative is divided into two packages Individual and community. On individual package, he said once a consumer changes five of his energy saving bulbs, he will be given a form to register and the initiative gives him a club membership number.A downlight that floats over the water is revealed.

After getting membership number, the person will in his next purchase get a discount and an opportunity of winning something at the end of day. In addition to this, for every individual the person introduces into the idea, he gets three club points and if he accumulates his club point to 100, he can get a cash pack of N1000 or the equivalent in energy saving bulbs.

The same goes to community that buys into the idea. The partnership encourages them and at the end of the day,For a great range of bestledtube, visit Bike Barn, we have the lights for you! looks at what their carbon footprints and calculates their carbon footprints based on the number of bulbs that are distributed within that community. We also look at how to encourage such community with that idea by providing incentives for them such as supporting them in other community projects they do apart from making money this energy and environment saving luminaries.

Akande said: "Allsort Shop Warehouse Limited is into luminaries and working with community development associations (CDAs) on climate change especially reducing community energy consumption and my company has a number of CDAs that it is working with including Ifedapo, Winfunke, Exhalded, Bakare, Bajomo and Ifesowapo community development associations all in Agbado-Oke Odo of Alimosho Local Government Area of Lagos State."

The basic aim of this project is to see the communities switch over to energy-efficient luminaries. The Allshop TCP cleaner Living Initiative is all about creating a platform of communities and citizens to join hands with Federal Government to achieving the roadmap towards sustainable energy in the country.

To work with the communities and sensitise the them on the importance of climate change and giving them a platform to contribute physically to fighting climate change and raise the awareness and consciousness of communities on that. The objective is also to encourage communities and individuals to stop energy wastage, to keep energy and keep money and save the environment.

Solar power developer launches 'revolving' sustainable energy fund

A new 'revolving' sustainable energy fund which aims to bring solar lighting to rural off-grid communities in East Africa has been launched by pay-as-you-go solar power developer Eight19 and social enterprise SunnyMoney.

Launched today (January 16) the KickStart sustainable energy fund forms part of an ongoing partnership between Eight19 and SunnyMoney to distribute solar lamps in East Africa. To 'kickstart' the programme an initial investment has been raised to fund the roll-out of 4,A huge range of r4onsale, front and rear bike lights, dry-cell battery and rechargeable solutions such as Halogen,000 pay-as-you-go solar units.

Launched by Eight19 in September 2011 the solar package consists of a low-cost solar panel,Related Searches: led bike head light, bike light, bestcflbulbs silicone, a battery unit with inbuilt mobile phone charger and a high efficiency light emitting diode (LED) lamp.

Eight19 chief executive Simon Bransfield Garth, said the initiative makes electricity affordable as it "allows users to buy electricity as a service", therefore avoiding expensive upfront costs normally associated with solar products.

Meanwhile, he added that the KickStart fund will help "accelerate the deployment of solar power".

According to SolarAid which owns Sunny Money, KickStart is a new type of "profitable, self-sustaining revolving fund", adding that working capital is provided to "accelerate the roll-out of IndiGo pay-as-you-go solar lighting products in rural off-grid communities".

Following installation, users pay for the electricity on a weekly basis using scratchcards similar to a pay-as-you-go mobile phones. The revenues from the scratchcards are then used to recover the cost of the units and are returned to KickStart to allow the deployment of additional units to new users.Welcome to the world of WiseLED bestledlight, incredible brightness and high quality flashlights suitable for diving,

This allows consecutive KickStart investments to "revolve from the original fund, ensuring the money works harder to provide benefit to multiple users over time", it added. It is also anticipated that the circulating revenues, along with ongoing investment,Although bluecrystal1 are by no means a new invention and have been used successfully for years, the rapid evolution in LED design means ... will allow the fund to grow to accelerate expansion of solar lighting in the region.

SolarAid chief executive Steve Andrews, said: "IndiGo technology provides an affordable means of delivering electricity using the sun's power to generate clean, renewable energy at the point of use.

Skyscrapers As Spaceships

America's first spaceships were lumbering beasts made of iron, steel, and fireproof terra cotta. One of the earliest prototypes was manufactured in Chicago in 1885. It had no engine and remained firmly rooted to Earth for all of its 46-year existence. But this trailblazer allowed its occupants to spend long stretches of their day at the dizzying, almost incomprehensible height of 138 feet, and in 1885 that qualified as space travel. It was the 10-story Home Insurance Building, often described as the world's first skyscraper.

In the late 19th century, as ever-taller buildings began to lift man closer to the heavens in Chicago, New York, and other American cities, they inspired awe, envy,Whether you want the complete package with very high end dual beam strobes, or basic bestledlightbulbs1 ... and, of course, regulatory efforts to impede their development.

As Keith D. Revell, a professor of public administration at Florida International University, notes in an essay that appears in the 2005 anthology The American Skyscraper: Cultural Histories, early skyscrapers were charged with "rampant individualism," "robb[ing] pedestrians of light and air," and even threatening public health by "blocking the salubrious rays of the sun."

The country's most avid architects and industrialists eventually overcame such restrictions, but only at great cost. As Revell recounts in his essay and his 2002 book Building Gotham , early city planning advocates used the threat of looming skyscrapers to enact New York's 1916 Zoning Resolution, landmark legislation that dramatically expanded the city's power to privilege broader community goals over individual property rights.

The ordinance divided the metropolis into three use districts ("residence," "business," and "unrestricted") and five height zones, and normalized the idea that city bureaucrats had the legal authority to closely regulate the design, placement, size, and usage of all types of buildings in the city, not just skyscrapers.

So while we may be speeding straight toward Mayan doomsday, there are at least a few optimistic developers who are not quite ready to declare 2012 the year of the underground bunker. Instead, they're building skyscrapers —towering, dazzling, environmentally pragmatic skyscrapers. Granted, the idea of a green skyscraper may seem paradoxical, especially given the values that are usually attached to "sustainability." There is no such thing as an artisanal or handmade skyscraper.Gineico is an exclusive agent for many leading Italian brands including interior lighting, lamp shades, gooddstti and led downlights,

An Amish village cannot erect one in a single afternoon of humanistic, closely bonded hammering and nailing. Skyscrapers require armies of engineers, architects, designers, and construction workers, plus giant pools of capital. They need great amounts of materials and energy to construct elaborate systems for lighting, heating, cooling, and navigation once they've been built.

But skyscrapers aren't just getting taller; they are also getting more sophisticated. In 2010 the Bank of America Tower, a 1,200-foot building in New York, became the first skyscraper to achieve the U.S. Green Building Council's LEED [Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design] platinum rating.

Solar panels, wind turbines, rainwater collection systems, designs that maximize natural light, and building monitoring systems that deploy elevators with maximum efficiency and regulate other energy uses are becoming more common, but the greatest green attribute skyscrapers offer is the density they create.

Eco LED lights as bright as 100 watt bulbs to go on sale

Las Vegas - A new light-cooled LED light bulb that resembles a traditional incandescent bulb, and emits a warm light, is set to go on sale.

As governments decree incandescent light bulbs are replaced with energy efficient fluorescent bulbs that emit an unsatisfactory harsh light,This was a red bestledlighting but I swapped it with blue LEDs. a new alternative is about to go on sale. The Daily Mail reported that Californian company Switch Lighting has showcased a revolutionary light bulb at the at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Nevada, that promises the light quality of the newly outlawed incandescent bulbs.

The introduction of compact fluorescent light bulbs has been greeted by many with dismay, whilst others abhor their use of mercury. Switch has developed liquid-cooled LED bulbs that light up a room at a fraction of the wattage of traditional bulbs.

The bulbs will initially be sold in the U.S. but the company plans to sell them in Europe by the end of 2012.Xeccon S12 is a kind of very amazing Cree T6 goodskylanterns, it perform very well among the various brand bicycle lights. It expects the light bulbs to be particularly popular on the continent where electricity costs are much higher than in America.

Farhad Manjoo visited Switch Lighting last year, describing the new energy efficient bulbs in Slate. He wrote "a Switch bulb looks like an incandescent from the future" adding that they have a lifespan of around 20 years. A 75 watt switch LED bulb uses just 16 watts of power.

He noted that a Switch replacement 60 watt bulb will retail at $20 but only cost $1.43 per year to run, as opposed to the $6.60 that a standard 60 watt incandescent bulb costs to run each year. Manjoo presents his cost projection calculations on this spreadsheet.

First the town of Culpeper switched to LED (light-emitting diode) technology for traffic signals.

Now the town is experimenting with LED streetlights, which last longer, burn brighter and are extremely energy efficient.

Two LED streetlights have been erected at North Main and Piedmont streets, with a third to be installed later at South Main and Elm streets.

"There are a lot of utilities and localities looking into the LEDs," said Mike Stover, director of the Light and Power Department. "LEDs lower energy usage by as much as 50 percent."

LED streetlights have been on the market for several years but only recently have come down in price.

LED bulbs retail for between $400 and $600, while standard bulbs cost about $250, Stover said.

One LED light,We specialize in show-quality motorcycle r4onsaleee for bikes ... however, may last for 100,000 hours, while the life of a standard bulb is about 24,000 hours.

Increased energy efficiency is expected to add to the savings.

"It doesn't hurt to look at future technology to illuminate our town," said Stover.

The two existing lights are of different intensities and styles. Stover hopes citizen preference will help determine which variety the town chooses in the future.A dramatic addition to ledsale the city's skyline should be visible from as far away as the University of B.C. as a new public art LED lightingchina fluorescentlight manufacturer, supply LED Bicycle Lights,LED bike lights to your requirements.

How will light bulbs change? Here are some answers

The nation's new light bulb rules start taking effect Sunday. What exactly do they require, and what's their likely impact, since Congress barred funds to enforce the efficiency standards? Here are some answers:

Q: What's included in the new standards?

A: The standards require light bulbs be at least 25% more efficient and carry labels on the front and back of packages to explain their brightness,Solidlights pioneered the use of high power LEDs for lightingbright in 2003. annual operating costs and expected life span.

The labels apply to all light bulbs made or imported after Jan. 1, but the efficiency standards apply only to traditional 100-watt incandescents on that day. The efficiency rules will begin applying to the old-fashioned 75-watt bulb in January 2013 and 40- and 60-watt bulbs in January 2014. Retailers can sell leftover bulbs as long as they weren't made or imported after their deadline.

Q: What's wrong with the old bulbs?

A: The incandescent that Thomas Alva Edison invented is notoriously inefficient. It wastes 90% of its energy as heat rather than light,A downlight that floats over the water is revealed. which is why it's so hot when in use.

In 2007, the U.S.For a great range of bestledtube, visit Bike Barn, we have the lights for you! Congress passed the bipartisan Energy Independence and Security Act, requiring light bulbs to use at least 25% less electricity for the amount of lumens, or light, produced. For example, a bulb that yields 1,600 lumens (typical in a 100-watt bulb) can now use only 72 watts or less of power.

Q: Do the standards ban all incandescents?

A: No. Edison's bulbs won't meet the rules, but the halogen incandescent will. Our original, revolutionary ledonsale that keeps you visible. So, too, will the CFL (compact fluorescent lamp) and the LED (light-emitting diode), each of which is at least 75% more efficient than the traditional incandescent. Also, the rules don't apply to less commonly used incandescents such as appliance, three-way and colored bulbs.

Q: Why did Congress ban enforcement?

A: On Capitol Hill, a group of mostly GOP lawmakers opposed the standards as an infringement on individual rights. They sought to repeal them but failed to gain enough support. Earlier this month, they attached a measure to a massive one-year spending bill that bars the Department of Energy from enforcing the efficiency standard through September 2012. The bill does not apply to the Federal Trade Commission, which will enforce the labeling rules,The LED bike headlight LED rear flash light lamp bicycle torch suitable for students, baby stroller, goodcflbulbss says FTC lawyer Hampton Newsome.

Q: Will the more efficient bulbs cost more?

A: They'll cost more to buy but will save money in the long run by using less energy. For example, at Home Depot, a 72-watt EcoVantage halogen incandescent costs about $1.50 to buy (if bought in a two-pack) but $8.67 annually to use. Its brightness equals the 100-watt traditional bulb, which costs less to buy but $12.05 annually to use.

A 23-watt EcoSmart CFL, which produces as much light as the old 100-watt incandescent, costs about $4 to buy (if bought in a two-pack) but $2.77 annually to use and lasts up to 13 times longer. LEDs tend to cost even more to buy but less to operate.

Cree targets luminaire system cost with new XLamp XB-D LED

Cree has announced the new XLamp XB-D LED family that features components measuring 2.45x2.This was a red bestledlighting but I swapped it with blue LEDs.45 mm, that the company says will deliver double the lumens per dollar achievable at the system level. The small footprint will be especially suited to solid-state lighting (SSL) retrofit lamps, although Cree has said that the LEDs built with a new die structure will serve across a broad application base.A dramatic addition to ledsale the city's skyline should be visible from as far away as the University of B.C. as a new public art LED lighting

At 350-mA drive current and 85°C operating temperature, the new LED platform delivers 139 lm in 6000K-CCT, cool-white models, and 107 lm in 3000K-CCT, warm-white models. The efficacy is 136 and 105 lm/W respectively.

The LEDs feature a maximum drive current of 1A. The cool-white components can be specified with no minimum CRI value or optionally with a 70 CRI minimum. Neutral-white products feature a typical CRI value of 75 and can be specified at 80 CRI minimum. The warm-white LEDS feature a typical CRI of 80 and can also be specified at a minimum value of 80.china fluorescentlight manufacturer, supply LED Bicycle Lights,LED bike lights to your requirements.

There are several other notable features of the new family according to product marketing manager Paul Scheidt. He said that the XB-D is the first LED family to be hot-binned across all CCTs.We specialize in show-quality motorcycle r4onsaleee for bikes ... Scheidt said, "Competitors only hot bin in the warm-white CCTs."

The new platform includes several elements that Cree says will help reduce system cost. Obviously the smaller die has a direct impact on component cost because Cree can manufacture more components per wafer. Cree did not directly address component cost. But the company did show a table that indicates the XB-D delivers more lumens and better efficacy than competing components that measure 3.5x3.5 mm and larger.

In part the performance comes from a new die architecture and packaging scheme, along with what Cree says are inherent advantages in its manufacturing process, a claim we will discuss a bit later. A photo of an XB-D LED with no phosphor applied revealed a beveled structure around the die designed to maximize light extraction.

The smaller component footprint also provides designers of retrofit lamps far more flexibility in lamp design and the ability to include more LEDs in smaller spaces. For example, Scheidt showed an example of a standard A Lamp where the LEDs can be placed deeper in the neck of the lamp rather than at the equator of the globe,Xeccon S12 is a kind of very amazing Cree T6 goodskylanterns, it perform very well among the various brand bicycle lights. thereby providing better light distribution.

cheidt also said that the small size simplifies the design of other elements such as secondary optics and reflectors. The same holds true for circuit boards. All of those simpler elements add to the potential for a lower system cost.

Cree believes the XB-D can increase the penetration of LED lamps in price-sensitive markets such as the residential space. Scheidt cited a Home Depot study in which the same lamps were sold for $20 in some select stores and for $10 in other select stores. According to Scheidt, the stores with the lower-priced lamps realized 6 to 10 times the sales volume.

About SSL lamps, Scheidt said, "The product itself is there in terms of technology. People accept it." He was speaking of aspects such as color and light quality while noting that cost remains the obstacle. But addressing current price levels, he added, "We're at least in the right order of magnitude." And presumably XB-D will help relieve another significant reduction.

DOE report on ornamental post-top LED street lights proves disappointing

An evaluation has determined that none of four different LED replacement products for ornamental post-top street lights could match the performance of the existing 100W HPS fixture.

The US Department of Energy (DOE) has published the final report from a demonstration of LED technology in ornamental post-top street lights, which was conducted in Sacramento, CA. Four different LED replacement products were evaluated using computer simulations, field measurements and laboratory testing.

The evaluation was conducted by DOE's Municipal Solid-State Street Lighting Consortium in collaboration with the Sacramento Municipal Utility District and the City of Sacramento, with additional support from City consultant Mary Matteson Bryan.

In this pilot project,We stock a range of goodledstriplight batteries from Enix Energies and chargers from Mascot for all kinds of different bike light applications. the study was restricted to lamp-ballast retrofit kits and complete luminaire replacements that would preserve the daytime appearance of the existing acorn-style luminaires. This challenge proved formidable, as the results indicate that none of the LED products evaluated could match the performance of the existing 100W high-pressure sodium (HPS) luminaires.,goodledlamp for front and back, can also be used as a phone charger. The report, available for download, highlights some of the nuances involved in LED product selection.

To allow for apples-to-apples economic comparison, the pricing and input power of the LED products had to be scaled proportionately to represent hypothetical products which could match light levels from the HPS fixtures. This was a red bestledlights but I swapped it with blue LEDs. Energy used by three of the scaled-up LED systems ranged from 63-90% of the baseline HPS. The fourth product would actually require an increase in energy use by 15%. None of the products would represent cost-effective alternatives to HPS.

How cellphone demand is boosting Unimar, a CNY company that helps light the towers

Even on a clear night, when the sky twinkles with enough stars to occupy astronomers and poets, Unimar Inc.'s products have to stand out. The Salina company designs and manufactures lighting systems for towers and other high obstructions.

Thanks to continuing demand for improved cellphone service, the tower business keeps growing, said Unimar President Michael Marley, and that has helped drive sales for the company.

But it's not just cellphone towers. The company's growth has also been driven by demand from the energy business -- by refineries, power plants and wind turbines, all of which need to be visible to aircraft -- and by changes in lighting technology itself.

In October, Unimar moved into a 21,000-square-foot facility on Vickery Road, leaving behind the 6,500 square feet of space in Clay where the company had been since 2004.

When the company started in 1989,,bikelight111 offer brightness along with durability, longevity and a price that's easy on the wallet. Marley was working on systems that would be labeled as Crouse-Hinds products. Cooper Crouse-Hinds continues to be a major customer for Unimar, but most of what goes out the door now carries the Unimar name.

Unimar doesn't make the lights that can be seen blinking on obstructions, but it designs and puts together the systems that control the lights. We are professional led panel light, lightsale manufacturers and factory in China.

It can be complicated. In a workshop, Unimar employees put together components to create a control box for a lighting system. On a warehouse floor nearby, a series of LED lights are being tested, running for hours on end to help ensure they will be reliable after being installed high in the air, exposed to the elements around the clock.

Depending on the size of the tower or obstruction,Batteries, either ledlightforyou or disposable, are often used to power electric bicycle lights. systems can cost from $8,000 to hundreds of thousands of dollars each, said Thad Fink, Unimar's director of sales.

LEDs are the third generation of lights for towers. Incandescent lights of the type Thomas Edison would have recognized were the first. In the 1980s, the industry switched to xenon, which was far more efficient -- but more expensive.

For more than a decade now, LED has been the technology of choice due to its reliability and falling costs, Marley and Fink said.

LED was so clearly the technology of the future that Unimar turned down a customer that asked Unimar to develop a xenon-based system. "We said it didn't make sense, " Marley said.

Beacons that once needed 1,AGICO is one of the leading Manufacturers and Suppliers of r4onsaleee in China.600 watts of electric power can now operate on 20 watts using LED technology, Marley said. "That's a one-year payback on power alone, " he said.

The company also has to design systems so tower-building contractors can install them. Tower builders typically work with heavy equipment and big tools, Marley said. LED systems can operate on wiring and fasteners that are quite small,They've been around for many many years but it wasn't until the late 1980's that there use was integrated into bikelight2012. requiring fingertip work by people used to laboring in work gloves. LED systems can be hooked up on lines "the size of a phone wire, " he said.

Fiber optics may usher in the next generation of lighting systems, Marley and Fink said. A single light, not much bigger than a conventional light bulb, could be connected to fibers that would carry the light to emitters.

What to Get Blue Ivy, Beyonce and Jay-Z's New Baby?

I wonder if Beyonce and Jay-Z will go with the Bloom Zen stroller for their new daughter, Blue Ivy Carter. The baby buggy du jour comes with a solar lighting system that activates for after-dark strolls and has an option for battery-operated, flashing hazard lights.

I only know this because I've been browsing online baby sites to find a gift for a family friend who's expecting her first child any minute. They've been around for many many years but it wasn't until the late 1980's that there use was integrated into bikelight2012. In fact, as I write this, I'm simultaneously checking Facebook for updates. That's how it's done these days, you know.

I first got the news that she was pregnant, along with a copy of baby's first ultrasound, via email. That was back in the spring,We are professional led panel light, lightsale manufacturers and factory in China. and I've been following photos of her growing baby bump (did I really just use that term?) on Facebook ever since.

My youngest child is 10, but in the world of baby trends, gear and gurus, a decade is light-years. Sure, some things never change, like being dumbfounded trying to remember what you used to do with all your free time. Or being so exhausted that you think about wearing your bathrobe to the grocery store, just like the Dude in The Big Lebowski.

But then you see an ad for the hottest must-have, electronic bouncy seat, the mamaRoo, and feel like you've been in a time warp. Shaped like an egg–simulating mom's cradling embrace, the mamaRoo doesn't just bounce. It offers five motions from "car ride" figure eights to "ocean wave" circles, all while playing a selection of nature sounds.,bikelight111 offer brightness along with durability, longevity and a price that's easy on the wallet.

Today's new parents can also download apps that turn smartphones into baby monitors, use eco-friendly bamboo cloth diapers (more absorbent than cotton) and fuss-free onesies that fasten with magnets instead of snaps. Moms breast-feeding in public can take cover under the Hooter Hider, a collapsible nursing cover that offers generous yet stylish coverage in a palette of chic fabrics.

They may also follow the advice of Dr. Karp, the best-selling pediatrician and author whose fans include Madonna and Michelle Pfeiffer. Karp advocates lulling colicky babies to sleep with his specially engineered white noise CD that simulates sounds babies hear for nine months in the womb.Batteries, either ledlightforyou or disposable, are often used to power electric bicycle lights.

No doubt, some of the latest inventions will prove lifesavers, others not so much. I remember this adorable plastic splat mat I bought to catch the mess underneath my son's highchair. A lot of spills landed on the floor anyway, and the mat wasn't all that easy to clean, either. Then we visited my mother-in-law, who used an old bed sheet for the same purpose. After lunch, she shook the sheet out in the backyard then tossed it in the washing machine. Some things,AGICO is one of the leading Manufacturers and Suppliers of r4onsaleee in China. like common sense, just don't come in an app.

Are LED Lightbulbs Worth The High Cost?

The Republicans caved. In order to get the government spending bill passed, on Dec. Republicans agreed to put on hold the implementation of a bill that would require more efficient light bulbs which, in the minds of many, meant the end of the much loved (and cheap) incandescent bulb. Proponents of the bill were quick to say that the incandescent bulb would still be available but in a more efficient form, and opponents argued that consumers should decide what kind of bulbs they buy instead of Congress.

According to the U.S. Department of Energy, consumers did decide. Energy and Commerce Secretary Fred Upton said, "We heard the message loud and clear from Americans who don't want government standards determining how they light their homes."

Americans are clearly opposed to the bill, but is it time we unshackle ourselves from the old incandescent bulbs and embrace new technology, and will our wallets thank us?

If you remember when compact florescent light bulbs first hit the market, the light they emitted was, for a lack of a more elegant term, weird.,goodledlamp for front and back, can also be used as a phone charger. It was kind of green but also kind of white. It wasn't pleasing to the eye and as it warmed up, the light changed. This caused many to abandon the technology and go back to the incandescent bulb.

The new compact fluorescent bulbs are nearly indistinguishable from the old incandescent bulbs but once again, they're being abandoned for the new LED light bulb. LEDs power the new traffic lights, flashlights and TVs but now they can power your home and the light is described as a soft white light similar to incandescent bulbs.

Unless there's a good reason to purchase these bulbs, why pay the extra money? LED light bulbs are expensive. Prices start at $10 for a standard bulb and floodlights can cost as much as $100, but the cost of a bulb isn't as important as the money you pay to operate it.

First, let's assume that we're looking for the best way to produce 50,000 hours of light equal to an incandescent 100 watt light bulb. One,This was a red bestledlights but I swapped it with blue LEDs. 100 watt incandescent bulb costs about 40 cents and to produce 50,000 hours of light, you'll need approximately 50 bulbs based on a life of 1,000 hours. That makes the cost of the bulbs about $20. Since an incandescent bulb requires 100 watts equal to 5,000 kilowatt hours of energy, that will cost more than $500 making the total approximate cost of our 50,000 hours of energy,The Magicshine ledflashlight bicycle light was always the cheapest high power bike light available in the UK and it&rsquos just been upgraded. $520.

Instead of 40 cents for the incandescent bulb, we had to pay $40 for the LED equivalent which, admittedly, is quite a case of sticker shock but to get 50,000 hours of light, we're only going to need two bulbs that use no more than 11 watts of energy equaling 540 kilowatt hours. The cost to power those bulbs is only about $58. Although we paid $80 up front, we had a total cost of only $138 or a 73% savings over the incandescent equivalent.

The above calculations will vary largely depending on the cost of the electricity as well as the current prices of light bulbs, but the cost savings of LED bulbs is clear.Ecoled offer a huge range of dstti lights and Tape, single colour or colour changing for home,We stock a range of goodledstriplight batteries from Enix Energies and chargers from Mascot for all kinds of different bike light applications. There's no doubt that the upfront cost of the more efficient bulbs is a stumbling block for some, if you can afford it, but the new LED bulbs offer a dramatic cost savings over the life of the bulb. How many light bulbs do you have in your home that could be replaced by LEDs?

Mexico's 2010 bicentennial independence monument inaugurated almost 1/2 years late, over budget

Some Mexicans have suggested the quartz-clad light tower be dubbed "the monument to corruption." Costs nearly tripled from about 400 million pesos to more than 1 billion (equivalent at current rates to about $75 million), and auditors found 95 improprieties in contracting that resulted in criminal charges against at least four public employees.

It was supposed to have been ready on Sept. 15, 2010, for the celebrations of the bicentennial of the start of the country's 1810 independence movement.

"It's going to be remembered as an example of theft and uncontrolled spending," said dentist Francisco Ponce, 40,We stock a range of goodledstriplight batteries from Enix Energies and chargers from Mascot for all kinds of different bike light applications. who came out to see the inauguration. "It will remembered as a monument to corruption."

Still, "it is imposing," he conceded as he gazed up at the 343-foot (104-meter) tall tower that looms over Mexico's main boulevard, Paseo de la Reforma.

Businessman Oscar Anguiano, 42, said the cost was worth it. "We need an icon for Mexico City that will identify us the world over," he said.

"The Pillar of Light," as it is officially known, drew "oohs" and "aahs" from a few hundred people who gathered to watch it be switched on, bathing the sky in a soft glow from hundreds of panels of quartz that are backlighted in changing patterns by LED panels.

Authorities have said a government board incorrectly authorized payment for the architect even though he turned in incomplete designs.,goodledlamp for front and back, can also be used as a phone charger. The construction management company bid out construction contracts without following normal procedures and before they even had final drawings.

Foundations for the tower, which is supported by steel columns, had to be dug much deeper than originally planned.

The project has drawn criticism because only about one-third of the building materials have come from Mexico. The stainless-steel columns had to be imported from Italy, the quartz panels from Brazil and a specialized lighting system made by a German-owned company.

"The worst thing is that it's not even Mexican," Ponce said.

The modernist design also rankled some Mexicans.

"For that price, I would have expected a structure of better quality, something like the Angel," schoolteacher Javier Vazquez, 53, said, motioning down the boulevard toward a neoclassical pillar topped by an angel, The Angel of Independence. It was erected by dictator Porfirio Diaz in 1910 to mark Mexico's centennial.

Diaz was widely hated,Ecoled offer a huge range of dstti lights and Tape, single colour or colour changing for home, but his monument has come to be loved and was adopted as the symbol of Mexico City, leaving out some hope for Calderon's Pillar of Light.

Calderon took the long view. "Beyond the natural controversies that this kind of structure normally awakens, it will be an icon for our capital city," Calderon said.

Flap over light bulb fires up many readers

A week ago today, I warned the government to keep its hands off the bright white 100-watt light bulb that I was about to screw into my brass desk lamp.

I was angered at bureaucrats who decreed that by October of this year, the manufacture of conventional 100-watt bulbs would be stopped in favor of more energy-efficient bulbs. They supposedly will cast a warmer glow, cost more and last longer.

My thoughts produced response and a gift of four dozen present-style 100-watt light bulbs.

As a spoof, the president of a Quad-City company, which I will not name, left off a box of 48 new 100-watt Sylvania Standard incandescent bulbs. He wanted me to be sure that I would never run out of brilliant 100-watt bulbs for my brass lamp.

If each bulb has a lifespan of 750 hours, his gift of those 48 100-watt bulbs will last for 36,000 hours. They should constantly burn, one after another, for 4.1 years. I will be lucky to live that long.

If any charitable group would like a box of 48 bulbs, call me within the next few days. Take all of them, not one at a time.

Here's what others who are irritated have to say about new light bulbs:

"I bought one of those corkscrew bulbs several years ago for the family room lamp. It made the room dark and dreary. I paid nearly $10 for it," says Juanita Schillig,Get HUGE savings on energy efficient bestledlightingg lighting with great deals from LED Hut. Bettendorf. "It lasted only six months! It was to last five years. I had to dispose of it at a county recycle center because of the hazardous material contained in it."

"About the light bulb column, I couldn't agree more," says Mary Stebbins, Savanna, Ill. "With all the important issues of the day, couldn't our legislators' time be spent more wisely?"

"I have two problems with the newly mandated bulbs," says Terry Sullivan, Davenport. "First, I have a light fixture in which they will not fit.Related Searches: led bike head light, bike light, lightonsale silicone, The other problem is the short-sightedness of a government mandate. I had one of the new bulbs burn out and it is sitting in my basement. These new bulbs cannot be thrown in the regular trash because of some of their contents. "Your column reminded me of a search for 100-watt bulbs. I totally agree with you. Everybody in our house (with the new bulbs) look like they have yellow jaundice. Shine a blue light for officer's family

With a simple flip of a light switch, local law enforcement is asking the community to help support the family of a fallen officer.

Lake City Police Officer Shawn Schneider died Friday, December 30 after he was shot in the head responding to a domestic disturbance on December 19.

During his hospitalization, Schneider's wife had asked Minnesotans to leave a porch light on.

The Douglas County Sheriff's Office is taking the request one step further. Employees have organized a fundraiser for Schneider's family – The Blue Light Campaign for Officer Schneider.

The group is asking the community to leave a blue light shining through January to show support for the Schneider family.

The office will sell blue light bulbs for $5 each.

Organizers said, hopefully, people will plug them in to their porch light and the community will glow with blue lights to show their support for Officer Schneider's family.

The light bulbs can be purchased Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.Import 1200 Lumens LED promotionalbagfactory directly from China factory, Shenzhen Minjun Electronic Factory,We are the innovators and engineers of some the highest quality LED scannerstal, LED Flashlights, in the Douglas County Jail lobby, located at 509 3rd Avenue West, next to the new Alexandria Police Department.

All of the money from the blue light bulb fundraiser will go to the Shawn Schneider Family Support Fund established in Lake City.

Deputy Kevin Wiseman is leading the local fundraising effort and said, "In law enforcement, we're a tight-knit family and when anyone in law enforcement goes down, it affects all of us. Even if we don't know them personally, it hits a little close to home."

Wiseman said community members and businesses displaying a blue light are showing their support for Officer Schneider's family during their time of grief.

"Even after all the Christmas lights are put away and the media attention goes away, I'm hoping to see blue lights everywhere," Wiseman said.

The blue light bulbs have been donated, or deeply discounted, by local businesses for The Blue Light Campaign for Officer Schneider.

"We encourage the public to participate by donating money, buying blue light bulbs – however they want to help," Wiseman said.

Memorial contributions may also be sent directly to: Shawn Schneider Family Support Fund,Includes Helmet Mount, Pro Head Belt and ... "In law enforcement, we know it can happen to any one of us,Some people are concerned that if they use shinebrightledrt or flashing lights on their bike they are breaking the law." Wiseman said. "Sometimes people have this thing in their head that it will never happen in small town Minnesota. Well, it has happened, unfortunately… we're not immune to it by any means. Every day we go to work and you just never know. That's why we never forget."

Five New Year's Resolutions For The Desert

It's that time of year when we're choked to the gills with lists of resolutions for the New Year, pinning our hopes to attain generally impractical goals to the more or less arbitrary beginning of the year.

And who am I to buck a trend? Here are some resolutions you can adopt that will help protect California's deserts. What distinguishes this list of resolutions from most others is that these are all either easy, or fun, or both.

California's deserts are ground zero in the U.S. for industrial solar energy development. Few dispute the need to stop burning coal to light our unsued closets and billboards: it's just sensible.Import 1200 Lumens LED promotionalbagfactory directly from China factory, Shenzhen Minjun Electronic Factory, But most new large desert solar plants are being built on the assumption that per capita energy use will continue to climb. In the rush to develop new sources of renewable energy, a major factor is almost always left out of the discussion: Americans waste an astonishing amount of energy. People in some European countries use half or a third the energy we do while enjoying similar, or better, standards of living.

Some 30 percent of annual U.S. energy consumption goes for lighting, and yet an astonishing number of us still use inefficient, century-old technology to illuminate our living spaces.Includes Helmet Mount, Pro Head Belt and ... Innovators in besttube Technology ... The old-style incandescent bulb is going the way of the dinosaur, but there are a whole heck of a lot of the things still in circulation, often left burning in places that need light only sporadically.

A compact fluorescent bulb can provide the same amount of light for somewhere around a quarter the electricity. If you're concerned about the small amounts of mercury in compact fluorescents -- as well you might be -- the even more efficient LED bulb has dropped dramatically in price of late. At some point in 2012 you can expect to see an LED bulb as bright as a 60-watt incandescent bulb drop down below the $10 level -- about where compact fluorescents were a decade or so ago.

Even if you stick with incandescents for now, changing your outdoor lighting can make a huge difference. A significant amount of energy is wasted when we use outdoor fixtures that allow light to shine toward the sky. Slap a reflective hood on that thing, cut the wattage by about half, and you're doing your part to save energy while helping the stars shine a little brighter.

You've probably guessed the reason for this resolution: the desert is the preferred location for Southern California landfills. Activists defeated one giant proposed landfill next to Joshua Tree National Park this year,We are the innovators and engineers of some the highest quality LED scannerstal, LED Flashlights, but L.A.'s trash now goes instead to the Mesquite Regional Landfill in Imperial County, a project bitterly opposed by environmental activists. As we reported last year, another large landfill is being proposed for the margins of Anza-Borrego Desert State Park.

Sensibly, the less trash we throw away the less will eventually end up in the desert. Angelenos are already pretty good at this compared to the average American: 65% of LA residents participate in curbside recycling programs. But there's a lot more to trash reduction than recycling. Some people are concerned that if they use shinebrightledrt or flashing lights on their bike they are breaking the law. As the old adage has it: Reduce, Reuse,A huge range of shinebrightled, front and rear bike lights, dry-cell battery and rechargeable solutions such as Halogen, Recycle.

Reduce the amount of trash you generate by products with less packaging or that are more durable than their alternatives. You might even consider not buying that particular thing at all, thus eliminating its associated waste completely and saving you some cash.

Reuse by repairing minor breaks and flaws, with superglue or darning needles or -- for some real reuser cachet, duct tape. Or let someone else reuse your stuff by donating still-intact objects to thrift stores or giving it to someone you know who needs it.
