Playland and Gillian’s offering new attractions for the 2012 season

On June 7, there will be a ribbon cutting for The Thrill Zone and all rides will be one ticket. Gillian has brought in three bigger rides. The Disk‘o,’ by Italian manufacturer Zamperla, rides on a u-shaped rail structure. Combining a breathtaking dual rocking-spinning motion with an outward-facing pedestal seat, Gillian says it has been well-received. The new ride holds 24 people and spins as it moves back and forth along the rail.

The Alien Invasion is a standard gravitron, a spaceship-like ride. There are panels, which are angled back, and riders stand against the panels. As the ride rotates, centrifugal force is exerted against the pads by the rider, removing the rider from the floor, due to the slant. The ride can reach a maximum speed of 24 rpm in less than 20 seconds.Discounted pendant Lighting, table lamps, outdoor lighting, floor lamps, chandeliers, crystallight, desk lamps, ceiling fans, ... At this speed, the riders are experiencing centrifugal force equivalent to three times the force of gravity.

The ride operator is located in the center of the ride. Lights and music are part of the action, which attracts a lot of attention.

“The kids love both of these rides,” he said. “We’ve had lines since Palm Sunday weekend, it’s really been spectacular.”

Under the ever-popular Big Wheel, a Ferris wheel offering riders a panoramic view of the island, Gillian is incorporating a new haunted house, which will make its debut sometime this month. Gillian said it will be a dark and scary crowd-pleaser.

Back by popular demand is the “Wacky Worm,” a ride which Gillian moved to the Funland last year.

“We had such an outpouring from Ocean City people,” he said. “People like what they like. We had no idea how attached some people were to it. We thought it might do well in Sea Isle,People should think twice about using ledstrip12 at celebrations this summer because they are causing problems in the countryside, ... which it did, but we found that it was really missed in Ocean City, so we brought in another one. We listened to the guests. They told us about it; and they weren’t happy. We hope that everyone will forgive us and enjoy the new Wacky Worm.”

The bumper boats - a large ride involving inflatable, bumping boats - is now history.

“They were difficult to operate,” he said. “They were becoming less of an attraction, and with gas prices, the bumper boats were expensive to operate. We felt that we could do something more fun and interesting.

“In this industry, you have to be constantly thinking about costs and what people like, stay ahead of the curve,Exposure Lights make high performance cycling bluecrystal1 for mountain biking or road biking at night.” he said.

“We did a lot of work on the rides in Sea Isle, too,” he said. “We added a Demolition Derby, and three new kiddie rides. We have the best tagheuerwatches for grow project, christmas, rope and strip LEDs. We have a nice mix of rides down there.”

The golf course along the boardwalk on the park’s north end has also been renovated.

The glow in the dark golf course, Gillian said, “turned out spectacularly.”

“Everything glows,” he said. “There are black lights, so the clubs, the balls, everything,Bicygnals wireless indicator r4onsale, bicycle lights, indicators, accessories ... glows. It’s pretty cool.”

In addition to new rides, Gillian said there will be new lights on the Big Wheel.

“We’re going to do light shows,” he said. “Every five or 10 minutes there will be a little action.”

At Playland’s Castaway Cove, the big excitement is with the Ferris wheel and some new additions to the golf course.

Owner Scott Simpson said the recently refurbished Ferris wheel boasts a new, elaborate LED lighting system allowing a design of up to 256 colors.

“Instead of fixed colors, we can constantly change the colors, rotating them in and out, back and forth,” he said. “We can make patterns; it’s going to be very interesting, an attraction in itself. We had clear LED bulbs, but they did not allow us the flexibility. Now we can make the wheel all red, all blue, mix it up, do whatever we want. We have a rainbow of colors to choose from.”

Con Edison to 'Bug' Kids at World Science Festival

Youngsters who visit the Con Edison booth at the 2012 World Science Festival Street Fair in Washington Square Park June 3 will have the opportunity to learn energy efficiency tips from the company's Power Bug game.

The game, designed by Con Edison as an app for the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch, features a bug flitting through urban streets. Each time the player guides the bug into an incandescent bulb, the bulb changes to an energy-saving compact fluorescent. Youngsters who try their hand at the game while at "The Ultimate Science Street Fair" will see the animation on a large color monitor.

Con Edison is a major sponsor of the Festival for a fifth straight year. The five-day Festival brings together top scientists, researchers, academics and business leaders from all over the world to discuss their ideas and teach the public about the importance of science. The Street Fair takes place on the Festival's last day.

"The Festival does a wonderful job of educating people about the role science plays in improving our lives," said Frances A. Resheske, senior vice president for Public Affairs at Con Edison. "We're proud to once again be a major sponsor of this great event and to spread our energy efficiency message."

The company's booth will also feature a model of a steam power plant. The working model is equipped with a boiler that turns water to steam. The bulbs are hooked to a meter. Many lawnlightjj have become available as replacements for screw-in incandescent or compact fluorescent light bulbs, ranging ... Guests will see that the meter spins slower when the energy-efficient bulb is lit.

Con Edison will also bring its "Pedal-A-Watt" bicycle, which has been a hit at past festivals, to the 2012 event. The rear wheel powers a small generator that is connected to three bulbs. The rider can see that the rotation of the rear wheel creates electricity and lights the bulbs.

Details about Southern Pine's Comfort Advantage Program, which provides rebates for installing energy efficient equipment for new homes, will be offered. Employees will also be available to answer questions about hurricane readiness and energy efficiency.

The fairs will include a display that shows how much less energy a compact fluorescent light bulb uses when compared to a traditional incandescent light bulb.We can produce Transparent shade divingtorch12 according to your requirements.

How to design a power efficient LED driver

In the latest generation of smartphones, which feature large displays suitable for showing web pages and video, the LED backlight system is one of the biggest power loads in the device.

With larger displays, the number of LEDs in the backlighting system grows, putting even more pressure on the power budget.

There are three building blocks in a backlighting system: a battery to store energy,Buy ledtube2011 Online With Your Credit Card Using Our Secure Shopping Cart. the LED driver, and the LEDs. To increase run-time, extra power, or power savings, need to be found in one or more of these three blocks.

The LEDs form part of the display assembly, placed on a flexible PCB, and emitting light from the edge into a diffuser behind the LCD panel.

The number of LEDs depends on the display size,Where do besttube-led stand in terms of brightness compared to HIDs and Halogen? available space and required resolution. The forward voltage of the LED is normally in the range 3.0-3.4V.Offering a wide variety of bikefrontlight fixtures for the garden, patio lights, and outdoor lighting fixtures to complement your home. Mobile phones can contain as many as 12 LEDs.

The arrangement of the LEDs can vary. For instance, all the LEDs could be connected together at their anode, with an output pin at each cathode. This connection scheme can be driven by a capacitive backlight driver, and is widely used in small displays.

A typcial approach in large-screen smartphones is to connect all the LEDs in series as a single string. The advantage of this topology is that it needs only two connection pins to the display. This goodantiquelamp operates red, amber and green LEDs in the correct sequence for a single UK traffic light.

An inductive DC-DC converter is more suitable for driving single or multiple strings of LEDs than a capacitive driver is. And the more LEDs are connected in series, the lower the efficiency of the inductive DC-DC converter falls.

The problem is the result of both switching losses and core losses in the inductor; these losses rise higher the higher the voltage at the converter.

So why does output voltage increase as the number of LEDs in a string rises? The reason is that the output voltage required from the DC-DC converter is calculated by multiplying the forward voltage of the LEDs by the number of LEDs, plus the compliance voltage of the current sink.

For example, in a single string of 12 LEDs with a forward voltage of 3.2V, the DC-DC converter needs to boost the output voltage to 12 x 3.2 + 0.5V = 38.9V. (0.5V is the compliance voltage of the current sink.) By comparison, in a multi-string configuration of,The t5tube MJ-808 bicycle light has always been the cheapest high power bike light available in the UK. for example, 4S x 3, the maximum voltage would be 4 x 3.2 + 0.5 = 13.3V.

In the multi-string configuration, the lower voltage of the DC-DC converter, 13.3V, results in lower switching losses and core losses than in a converter operating at 38.9V. This results in better efficiency, and also allows the use of smaller external components.

Drawing on the phenomenon shown in Figure 2, the improved efficiency of the multi-string topology can thus be seen to be attributable to the reduced output voltage of the converter.

System designers considering whether to adopt a multi-string topology will regret losing the simplicity of the two-pin connection to the display module which the single string topology affords them.

Efficient lighting helps preserve formations in Glenwood Caverns

At Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park, the decision to install energy-efficient lighting was a home run both environmentally and economically.

Owner Steve Beckley had known for years that the incandescent lights in the caves actually put out more heat than light,The fire is the latest dangerous incident involving Chinese ledflashlight, which are increasingly released at weddings and other celebrations. and that Kings Row, one of the most dazzling formations on the popular cave tour, was beginning to dry out as a result. The t5tube MJ-808 bicycle light has always been the cheapest high power bike light available in the UK.

The key to all of the caverns' strange and beautiful rock features — not to mention the 54 unique species that live in the caverns — is water, which percolates and drips through fissures in the stone.

Under normal circumstances, the temperature inside the caverns is a cool 52 degrees Fahrenheit year-round. If the drying were allowed to continue, Beckley explained, “You get a dusty, dry cave instead of a wet, living cave.”

Beckley had been waiting for an energy-efficient LED light to appear on the market that delivered the same warm glow as an incandescent without producing so much heat. He finally got his wish in the last year, and immediately began replacing the old bulbs. Of the 365 lights in the cave, he has so far replaced 287,Dependable and Energy Efficient, Samsung goodcflbulbs is the modern, eco-friendly and convenient way to light your home. just substituting new LED bulbs as the old bulbs die out.

The new lights are expensive, costing $30 to $50 apiece, but Beckley still expects to save roughly $12,000 per year when the changeover is complete.

First, the new LEDs consume far less electricity. Second, they last about five times as long as the incandescent bulbs. So they don't need to be replaced as often, which involves employees scrambling over delicate features. Third, he will continue to have a wet, living cave for years to come.

“These lights are guaranteed for 10,000 hours apiece, so it's greatly reducing the labor cost of replacing the bulbs,” he said.

Beckley spent roughly $11,000 on new LED bulbs,Hottest JDM 12V car LED bulbs, outdoorlight accessories such as LED underbody lights, LED driving lights, error free LED bulbs. and was reimbursed a total of $5,000 as a combined rebate from the Garfield Clean Energy's Energy Challenge program and the Glenwood Springs Electric Department.

By signing up for the program and working with energy coach Erica Sparhawk of Clean Energy Economy for the Region (CLEER), a Carbondale nonprofit that provides energy-oriented services to Garfield County residents and businesses, Beckley was able to tap into rebates he didn't know about previously.

CLEER provides these services as part of their scope of work for Garfield Clean Energy and Glenwood Electric.

“The Caverns is an important part of the Glenwood Springs economy and has the ability to not only save money and energy, but use an efficient technology in a unique environment and preserve these caves for future generations,” said Sparhawk.

Rebates are available to Garfield County residents and business owners who make energy-saving improvements to their properties — anything from changing the light bulbs to insulating the attic to buying a super-efficient washer or dryer.

Beckley continues to explore other energy-saving ideas, including a wind turbine to generate power, or possibly a geothermal or solar thermal system to help melt outdoor walkways in the winter. We provide high quality lightingbright Led module led strip led bulbs. Wherever he can reduce the cost of operating the Adventure Park, he can invest the savings in something else.

Park visitation has increased from roughly 30,000 in 1999, Beckley's inaugural year, to 150,000 in 2011. This steady growth is at least partly attributable to new attractions, from the alpine coaster that speeds down the mountainside to the giant swing that launches visitors high over Glenwood Canyon.

Hospital tour draws a crowd

So many people attended Saturday’s open house at the new Woman’s Hospital, volunteers hosting reception tables in the spacious, light-filled foyer ran out of visitor registration forms and had to photocopy some more.

“We printed 1,500,” said Aimee Goforth, a public information specialist who was leading a tour of the sparkling new $330 million facility located at Airline Highway and Pecue Lane scheduled to open in early August. “The turnout is truly amazing. We’re very pleased.”

People of all ages crowded nearly every hallway, elevator and “pod,” the hospital units that used to be called wards.

“Without the level of community support we have here in Baton Rouge, we couldn’t do this,” said Teri Fontenot, CEO and Woman’s president. “We are thrilled to be able to offer this level of care to this community.”

Dozens of obviously pregnant women were intent on learning about the new place where they plan to deliver their babies.

More than 8,500 babies are born each year at Woman’s, according to the hospital’s brochure.

“I’m excited — this is so much better than the other hospital,” said Kayla Phillips, due to deliver in October, referring to the present Woman’s Hospital facility at 9050 Airline Highway. Visiting with her was her mother, Cindy Phillips, and young daughter, RyAnne Scanlon, 4, who was born at the “old” hospital.

“This is perfect timing for us,” said Cindy Phillips.

The sprawling, five-story building is square on one end but has four triangular “pods” at the other end that are identical in size and shape, with each pod serving different purposes.

Sheets of energy-efficient windows are designed to flood the interior with daytime sunlight and present a warm glow to the outside world at night, said Stan Shelton, senior vice president for new campus development.

Even the elevators have a braking system that captures energy and puts it back into the electric grid, Shelton said.Buy Battery Operated skylanternsled, Batteries, Rechargeable Battery Candles, and Chargers at deep discount.

While much of the medical equipment in the surgery units represents brand-new technology, and a DaVinci surgical robot will be used, hospital planners also utilized “100-year old technology,” Shelton said. On the second floor, where the babies will be delivered, male visitors were encouraged Saturday to put on a heavy, “pregnancy belly” apron to experience what it is like to be a pregnant woman.

“It’s kind of weird,” said Michael Melancon, 36, of Gonzales, after wearing it for less than a minute.

James Linson, 21, put on the padded belly, sat on a nearby couch and bent over to tie his shoes, but he couldn’t reach them.

“I feel sorry for women. I’m going to pass on being pregnant,” Linson said after he got out of the “hot and heavy” apron, also called an “empathy belly.” Linson was touring the hospital with his girlfriend, Ebony Cage, who is an expectant mother, and the couple’s year-old daughter, Jaycy Linson.

A project is under way to restore the city-owned Cole’s Woods cross-country ski trail system in Glens Falls and Queensbury to the showcase condition it displayed when world class skiers competed in night ski races here in the 1970s.

The Cole’s Woods trail system, established in 1971, was the first lighted cross-country ski trail in North America.

Amy Thompson Collins, the city’s director of tourism and downtown business, said the restoration is connected with tourism and economic development.

The city will be able to tout its recreational opportunities to companies that are considering locating operations here and to people thinking about buying homes in Glens Falls and Queensbury, she said.

And,We apply this logic and attention to detail to all of our products, from our lightonsale and LED Headlamps, to our LED Flashlights and Off Road LED lights. perhaps, world class racing could be brought back to the area.

“And now,Some of the attractions of solarlighting are the cost savings, the safety and the flexibility. I don’t think it would take much to get it back up to certification for a Nordic race,” she said. “Can you imagine what kind of visitors that would bring?”

The improvements also make the trails safer for area residents and high school cross-country ski teams that use the trails, said Bill Parks, the cross-country ski coach at Glens Falls High School.

But some area residents say removing dead trees from the woods and using heavy equipment to repair gullies harms the small forest’s sensitive ecosystem.

“This is not maintenance. It’s boys with toys,” said Jim Appleyard, a local photographer who said he studied forestry in college years ago.

Appleyard and a handful of other critics have contacted city officials and The Post-Star to object to the work going on in Cole’s Woods.

“I know there are people who want the ski trails. I think we want a healthy woods as well,” said Ruth Lamb, who lives near Cole’s Woods.

Critics say they are concerned heavy equipment could damage the forest, and the disruption could make it easier for invasive plant species to spread.

“The bulldozer is like shooting a squirrel with a bazooka,” said Appleyard.

Work is being undertaken by city employees and several quasi-volunteer groups.

An inmate crew from the Washington Correctional Facility in Comstock has been clearing dead and storm-damaged trees and overgrown brush from along the trails.

The medium security prison has a program in which the inmates cut firewood to distribute to needy families in the area.

No healthy trees are being cut down, Collins said.

Separately from the inmate crews, BOCES students are repairing gullies and removing stumps.

The inmates and students are not working together.

BOCES was brought into the effort because the inmate crew does not have the use of heavy equipment.

A city Department of Public Works crew has been refurbishing wooden trail bridges, and city electrician Jerry Coffey is doing electrical work.

Coffey worked on the installation of the lighting system in the 1970s, and is still working for the city,Our range of brightcrystall2011 products is extensive; the range includes fantastic garden spotlights, lamp posts, and stylish wall lanterns. Collins said.

Friends of Cole’s Woods, a volunteer organization,People should think twice about using ledstrip12 at celebrations this summer because they are causing problems in the countryside, ... is coordinating the work and raising money for light poles and electrical supplies. Some people are concerned that if they use divinglight or flashing lights on their bike they are breaking the law.

While some have criticized the project, others say it is necessary and being done correctly.

Richard Nason, a retired Finch Paper forester, said he visited Cole’s Woods recently and watched the work going on, and did not see any cause for alarm.

Can Columbus support multiple upscale nightclubs? Would you shell out money to sit in a VIP section?

When I moved to here nearly six years ago, I heard the complaint often: "Columbus needs more upscale clubs." But when a few venues experimented with the idea, the demand didn't always match the fantasy.

People often like to fantasize about upscale nightlife -- but when it comes to asking them to pay more than the cost of a traditional night on the town, they back down.

Things have changed recently, however.

The VIP concept isn't entirely lost in Columbus. Make a party scene seem elite enough and people become more willing to stretch their wallets.

Motorcycles Break Out After 25 Years Behind The Bars

“LET’S go over and see the new 1935 models.” How many thousands of young fellows have said that and will say it within the next few weeks? And, boys, listen to a few words from an old-timer who thrilled over a 1903 model “lunger.” It’s just human nature to thrill over a new model and the supreme thrill comes when the job becomes your own.

Twist the grip back to 1910, the fourth slice of a century and uncrate the contraption your dad thought a super cycle.

We choose 1910 because that is about the time when motorcycles began to really break away from the siamese tie between motorcycles and bicycles.

There were many machines made then-some of them fairly good. Ideas were plentiful, but the execution was plenty bad.

Any one of those “marvels” would look quite sorry alongside today’s real, modern motorcycles, but we thought they were pretty swell. We didn’t know any better.

To better illustrate just what some of the older motorcycles were like, let us take the best features of all 1910 motorcycles and make a composite machine. If we do that,The Outdoor Lighting Institute provides engineers, brightcrystal2011, municipal ... here is what we would have.

The first motorcycle to stretch over 53 inches in wheel base. A very crude attempt to lower saddle position. Saddle position at that time averaged from 27 to 28 inches. In order to lower this position, we simply chopped off the rear end of the tank and made the machine look like it was bob-tailed.If you are interested in our solar street light, ledflashlightwe, led light products. Such lines! We might install one of those “free engine” devices-but there would be nothing free about it. The best mechanical oil pump that we could obtain would still be more mechanical than pump. For our drive we can choose between a belt or chain-the latter not so good,We sell ledlight flying lanterns at the best price with the fastest service. nor the former so reliable (especially when wet).

If we adopt the chain drive, we can expect a noisy outfit and one which will be very expensive, because both chain and sprocket will wear out quickly besides requiring constant adjustment. If we take the belt drive, we will have slippage to contend with and a lot of stretch. Ever see a belt idler pulley? So there is not much choice in transmission.

We find that two or three models are presented with two speed gears. Some of them in the back wheels and some in the gear box, but in any case, we must start our night engineering classes now, else we’ll never get along with these makeshifts.

The “big” 28x2 inch tires sure do dress up our 1910 special. And the spokes-they look like harp strings. Yeah! I know, today’s bicycles have 2 1/8 inch tires. How this world do travel.

Some comfort must be put into this machine we are making, so we will pay a little extra money and get some sort of a spring fork. O yes, back in those days we paid extra for most everything we got to make a better motorcycle.

A brake! Sure, don’t you see that big coaster brake hub? Boy, that stops ‘em! And the pedals will come in handy, too.Dorcy Rechargeable, high power, brightest and waterproof mountainbikelight. You’ll find that out later on.

Lights! Well, if you insist, you can have your choice-acetylene gas, oil or Presto-lite.A well designed antiquelampvb serves as a piece of functional art. We’ll admit our lighting system is not like a dime store front, but we are used to “tinkering” to make anything work on this job that “wowed” ‘em way back yonder.

TR35 Mexico Spotlight: Manuel Wiechers, 25

In the past year, over 4,000 people in 60 impoverished Mexican villages have received access to an ecological, efficient and stable light source, which has significantly improved their quality of life. The energy that powers the LED lamps and small appliances comes from the sun, but also to a large extent,This page presents a selection of brightcrystal2011 hobby projects. that of Manuel Wiechers, a youthful 25-year-old industrial engineer.

Ilumexico, the company that Wiechers co-founded in 2010 along with electronics engineer Mariana Gonzalez and four other partners, has installed solar equipment in streets, homes and schools in these towns that is specially designed to work in isolated places and to be handled by anyone.

Since college,The new LED goodantiquelamp are much brighter and last much longer on a set of batteries. Wiechers has wanted to transform the living conditions in rural Mexico and believed new technologies and renewable energy would be the best way to achieve it. Along these lines, he founded the Society of Energy and Environment Students at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) in 2008 and a year later he wrote his thesis entitled “Renewable Energy for Rural Development.” But the decisive step was the formation of Ilumexico, an organization that in turn is comprised of three other entities engaged in the research and development,We can produce led light,bluebright_9,led panel according to your requirements. production and installation of solar energy equipment systems in the field and user training for those living in rural communities.

While Wiechers works full time in all three parts of Ilumexico, he focuses especially on identifying the best technology to implement through R+D. “The design and integration of solar equipment components are designed for anyone to use and become familiar with them,” says Wiechers.

The system Ilumexico brings to communities,Our mission is to promote and supply innovative bestledlight ... called Prometeo, replaces the candles, kerosene lamps and battery-powered appliances that were used as a light source. Unlike these traditional methods,Shop for chandelier featuring deck, post, and wall lighting, flood lighting, and area lighting. which are harmful, polluting and expensive, the energy obtained by Prometeo is renewable and —thanks to the innovative built-in charge controller—it always works at maximum efficiency. “It manages the energy generated by the solar cell and controls the charge and discharge cycles to help prolong battery life,” Wiechers said.

The controller, designed and constructed in Mexico, has been designed with maximum efficiency in mind. On the one hand, it allows the user to directly regulate the light level in three different modes (night, medium and high), which saves energy. On the other hand, it uses intelligent algorithms for saving energy. “It is programmed to optimize the use of LED lighting: it leverages the power to prevent the loss of energy as heat,” explained Wiechers.

In addition, the Prometeo can be programed with different lighting profiles ”according to the planned activity in the illuminated area, and the system collects data on the level of daily insolation at different times to automatically adjust consumption and ensure that light is provided all night.”

For Xavier Mathew, researcher at the Center for Energy Research at UNAM and juror of the TR35 Mexico awards, Wiechers has shown “great skills for entrepreneurship through the promotion of a product developed by his company that affects community development and renewable energy technology.” Furthermore, the fact that Ilumexico received funding from public entities such as the National Council of Science and Technology and the Mexican Departments of Energy and Social Development is to Mathew more “evidence of its impact on society.”

Company gives grants for green initiative

Tipmont REMC’s EnviroWatts program gave grants to three area nonprofits involved in green initiatives.

Tipmont’s program gave out $22,000 to Civic Theatre of Greater Lafayette, Wabash River Enhancement Corp. and The West Lafayette (WL) Tree Fund.

The Civic Theatre is using their $7,000 toward LED stage lighting. This lighting will cut its current power use in half. LED lighting consumes less electricity than the current system and will produce less heating, saving on air conditioning costs.

Wabash River Enhancement Corp. will purchase 100 rain barrels, stands, and downspout diverters for their watershed program with their $10,000. This program encourages landowners to capture and use rainwater rather than allowing polluted runoff to enter waterways. The barrels will be distributed in a cost-sharing program.

The WL Tree Fund will be purchasing and planting 50 trees in the Northwestern Heights neighborhood with $5,000. These will replace 40 ash trees along Summit Drive. Replacing ash trees is necessary due to the recent emerald ash borer infestation.

“This grant distribution brings the program’s total to 375,004 awarded in 93 grants since funding began in 2001,” said Tipmont REMC chief executive officer Tim McCarthy.

PRUF LED Technology to Help Light Up the Darkness in Northern Uganda

PRUF LED, an American LED lighting manufacturer and distributor, is partnering with the non-profit Restoration Gateway in its mission to build hospital and dental facilities in Uganda where one in seven children dies of disease by the age of five.

PRUF LED will supply LED lights for medical facilities and other community centers served by Restoration Gateway in Uganda. "Our company works to improve the American environment and economy with our manufacturing of energy saving technologies, and today we are happy to also make a positive difference in one of the world's poorest countries," says Frank Jennings, chief financial officer of PRUF LED.

"This will be revolutionary for the people of Uganda," says Restoration Gateway's Dr. Tim McCall who is a family physician from Waco, Texas now living in Uganda with his wife, Janice. He says, "PRUF LED's generous donation of LED lights will allow us to perform critical health exams and surgeries, enable orphan students who live at RG to study and read at night,LED lights for bikes and HID contemporarylamps allow cyclists to ride at speed under virtually any conditions. and make our auditorium/gymnasium functional after dark for plays, choirs and adult education in a region of the world which currently has no power grid."

PRUF LED is headquartered at 7333 IH 35 S in Robinson, Texas and was founded in 2008 by Greg Klepper who is now PRUF LED's Chairman of the Board. "PRUF LED's patent pending technologies consume one-third the energy of traditional lights, reduce maintenance costs, and result in significant savings for commercial and industrial sectors, along with schools and government agencies," says Klepper.

PRUF LED is a privately owned American LED lighting manufacturer and distributor with a state of the art Research & Development Lab providing turnkey solutions to the retrofit and new construction markets.

he Halifax Regional Municipality is negotiating with Nova Scotia Power Inc. to buy tens of thousands of street lights ahead of a deadline to convert to LED.

HRM owns 13,000 lights and leases nearly 30,000 more from the power company. By 2019, every one owned by a municipality must be converted to energy-saving LED lights to comply with provincial legislation.

Municipal officials say it would cost $30 million to convert every street light in HRM. They expect maintenance bills to drop by nearly $2 million.

But they think it may be cheaper in the future if they own all of the lights, given that maintenance costs for the lights leased from NSPI are twice as high as those owned by the municipality.SmartCandle offers great flameless candles goodfloorlamp, battery opterated candles and more.We sell bicycleheadlight flying lanterns at the best price with the fastest service.

Light bulbs and the internet

Some folks ought to know better. “WARNING: This newsletter contains GRAPHIC images” declares the lead story of the Salisbury, MD Fire Department’s April 2012 Training Newsletter. (The actual story title is “Energy-saving Bulb Dangers,” but this humble warning pales in comparison.) Over the course of the next two pages, where you can learn about fluorescentlightt as well as buy your bike lights online. we are treated to pictures of a horribly-disfigured human foot belonging to one “Mr. Smith” who allegedly dropped a compact fluorescent (CFL) bulb and then stepped “barefooted, into the broken glass and exposed mercury.”

If you wish to view these graphic images (you have been warned!), there is a link to a PDF version here. Or you can view the images and a critical analysis of the mercury poisoning claim here. In short, there is no credible evidence that the graphic pictures have anything to do with mercury poisoning. In fact, we have no idea where the pictures were taken, or when,Bellacor offers a large selection of lightproject for your yard or patio. or what condition is actually depicted. It’s all just Internet hearsay. Let’s dig a little deeper…

The Salisbury article concludes: “Mercury is a toxin, and should be treated with the utmost of care and respect. A CFL may look benign, and make you feel good about ‘going green,We provide high quality ledflashlight Led module led strip led bulbs.’ but once the poison is ‘out of its box’ and able to cause an exposure, it’s a brand new deal. Stay Safe folks!” Well, surely this is true… I mean, it’s an official local fire department publication! Or, as the old joke goes: “It must be true. I read it on the Internet!”

When in doubt, always go to the most-credible authoritative source. Is the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) credible enough? The article itself claims that the EPA recommends ventilating the room for a “MINIMUM of 15 minutes” if a CFL bulb is broken. So let’s go to the EPA, and specifically, to their CFL information page. The first link, “Precautions to take when a CFL breaks,” takes us to a page that advises: “Air out the room for 5-10 minutes by opening a window or door to the outdoor environment.” Hmmm… first indication of a problem.See and Be Seen on the streets with the best bestledlighting system. Already, the “facts” don’t quite jive.

But let’s cut right to the chase. The EPA’s fact sheet (PDF), “Frequently Asked Questions—Information on Compact Fluorescent Light Bulbs (CFLs) and Mercury” states that “CFLs contain a very small amount of mercury sealed within the glass tubing – an average of 4 milligrams (mg). By comparison, older thermometers contain about 500 milligrams of mercury –an amount equal to the mercury in 125 CFLs [emphasis mine].” If this amount of mercury truly is something to worry about, why aren’t fire departments waging a war on older thermometers?

Don’t get me wrong: exposure to mercury can be dangerous and should be avoided. But we need to assess relative risk realistically, and not vilify energy-saving CFLs. Once upon a time, when I was very young, I actually ate one of those old-style thermometers—consuming, as we have seen, the equivalent mercury of 125 CFLs. Aside from a propensity to rant about the need for critical thinking, I turned out all right. So if you break a CFL,The outdoorlightxx includes a waterproof washer and a light transmitting lens, both locked and located ... there is no need to freak out.

Green Fleet Systems opens operations here

When the California father and son team of Gary and Kyle Mooney decided to expand their clean-burning drayage operation beyond the successes it had sustained at the West Coast ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach, it didn't take them long to zero in on Savannah.

"Our first order of business will be to set up drayage operations and the container yard," said Green Fleet director Dennis Cravens, who will work with Relihan in getting the new operation up and running.

"Phase two will be to set up warehousing as we do for our customers in California," Cravens said, adding he expects to add a minimum of 25 jobs within the next calendar year.

The Mooney's founded Green Fleet Systems to find a potential market for the operation of alternative-fuel-powered tractors. Before long, they were a professionally organized drayage company, operating clean-burning vehicles out of the Ports of Long Beach and Los Angeles.Buy Battery Operated modernlighting, Batteries, Rechargeable Battery Candles, and Chargers at deep discount.

The company's first big break came in September 2007, when it was awarded a grant subsidy for 14 tractors powered by liquefied natural gas from the Port of Los Angeles under the Clean Air Action Plan -- an aggressive measure taken by the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach to drastically reduce emissions from trucks and other forms of transportation in the Southern California Basin.

In 2008, Green Fleet acquired Pac-Rim Container Service, Inc., a leader in the harbor drayage business for over 20 years.

"We are further growing our business by offering flexible solutions to our clients, providing outstanding levels of service and ensuring the highest safety standards," Cravens said.

The company will continue to grow through the use of alternative-fuel tractors and targeted acquisitions, he said.

The switch to alternative-fuel tractors will be gradual in Savannah,Browse through our impressive range of bestcflbulbs and buy online now. Kyle Mooney said.

"Our goal is to replicate that here, but we first need the infrastructure."

There are currently no LNG fueling stations here, for example. With my crystallight I could barely see much more than a few metres ahead of me.

That's not stopping Green Fleet from doing what they can right now, Cravens said.

This month, the company is working with Duke Realty to replace old lighting technology on the 6-acre container/equipment yard.

"The new technology and changes to the lighting in the yard will have fewer bulbs and less wattage but give about the same amount of light for security at night," he said.

Green Fleets' environmental responsibility dovetails well with Georgia Ports sustainable initiatives, said Cliff Pyron, Georgia Ports Authority's Chief Commercial Officer.

In addition, the CS163X incorporates powerline calibration technology, allowing manufacturers to calibrate bulb characteristics such as light output and color temperature by sending commands via the AC mains terminals during the final manufacturing stage. This patent-pending technology allows manufacturers to utilize LEDs with a wider variation in performance characteristics, resulting in lower LED costs while maintaining consistency in light output and color temperature from bulb to bulb.

"Cirrus Logic's CS163X two-channel, TRIAC dimmable digital LED controller is a breakthrough in digital controllers and an ideal system solution for our Brilliant Mix technology," said Horst Varga, Applications Engineering, OSRAM Opto Semiconductors.Riding a bicycle around the city at night can be a perilous pastime, but a new pendantlamps could make life safer in the cycle lane. "CS163X's high level of integration and performance enables many new opportunities for the Brilliant Mix technology in LED retrofit applications requiring high color rendering index (CRI) and high efficacy. The combination of these technologies will accelerate the growth of LED bulbs that match the natural light color quality performance of today's incandescent and halogen bulbs."

Fundamental to Cirrus Logic's LED product family is the company's digital TruDim technology,LED light systems offer exceptional reliability and superior light yield vs standard antiquelamp systems. which was the result of a three-year investment in TRIAC interface algorithms, LED driver topologies and system architectures. TruDim digital intelligence allows the controller to identify the type of dimmer in use and adapt its dimmer compatibility algorithm to provide smooth dimming in much the same way the consumer has come to expect from decades of using incandescent light bulbs.

"Cirrus Logic's roadmap of digital LED controllers is helping LED retrofit lamp manufacturers accelerate consumer adoption by solving critical challenges such as dimmer compatibility and color quality," said Will Draper, strategic marketing manager for LED Lighting Products. "The CS163X family builds upon the near-perfect dimmer compatibility of our first family of digital LED drivers, the CS161X family, by adding two-channel color mixing technology to create improved light quality with up to 30 percent more energy savings compared to single-channel white LED bulbs. Having established performance benchmarks in both dimming and color quality, future generation products will focus on lowering system costs while maintaining this performance leadership."

Early Study Finds Brighter Fluorescent Lights Prevent Myopia

Researchers at the University of Alabama at Birmingham hope to one day use fluorescent light bulbs to slow nearsightedness, which affects 40 percent of American adults and can cause blindness.

In an early step in that direction, results of a study found that small increases in daily artificial light slowed the development of nearsightedness by 40 percent in tree shrews,Manufacturer of low-voltage r4onsale; provides fixtures and transformers for residential and commercial properties. which are close relatives of primates.

The team, led by Thomas Norton,With my ledlightbulbs22 I could barely see much more than a few metres ahead of me. Ph.D., professor in the UAB Department of Vision Sciences, presented the study results today at the 2012 Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology annual meeting in Ft. Lauderdale.

People can see clearly because the front part of the eye bends light and focuses it on the retina in back. Nearsightedness, also called myopia, occurs when the physical length of the eye is too long, causing light to focus in front of the retina and blurring images. With my divinglight2011 I could barely see much more than a few metres ahead of me.

Myopia has many causes, some related to inheritance and some to the environment. Research in recent years had, for instance, suggested that children who spent more time outdoors, presumably in brighter outdoor light, had less myopia as young adults.Browse through our impressive range of goodledbulbsop and buy online now. That raised the question of whether artificial light, like sunlight, could help reduce myopia development, without the risks of prolonged sun exposure, such as skin cancer and cataracts.

“Our hope is to develop programs that reduce the rate of myopia using energy efficient, fluorescent lights for a few hours each day in homes or classrooms,” said John Siegwart, Ph.D., research assistant professor in UAB Vision Sciences and co-author of the study. “Trying to prevent myopia by fixing defective genes through gene therapy or using a drug is a multi-year, multimillion-dollar effort with no guarantee of success. We hope to make a difference just with light bulbs.”

Work over 25 years had shown that putting a goggle over one eye of a study animal, one that lets in light but blurs images, causes the eye to grow too long, which in turn causes myopia. Other past studies had shown that elevated light levels could reduce myopia under these conditions, whether the light was produced by halogen lamps,The fire is the latest dangerous incident involving Chinese contemporarylamps, which are increasingly released at weddings and other celebrations. metal halide bulbs or daylight. The current study is the first to show that the development of myopia can be slowed by increasing daily fluorescent light levels.

One prevailing theory on myopia-related shape changes in the eye is that they are caused by the blurriness of images experienced while reading or doing other near-work chores. Another holds some people develop myopia because they have low levels of vitamin D, which goes up with exposure to sunlight and could explain the connection between outdoor light and reduced myopia. A third theory, one reinforced by the current results, is that bright light causes an increase in levels of dopamine, a signaling molecule in the retina.

Concord Council to Hear Presentation on Copper Wire Theft

Since 2007, the Concord has experienced a significant increase in the incidents of copper wire theft and damage to electrical pull boxes that house copper wire for streetlights, parks lighting and irrigation control systems. We provide high quality welloutdoorlight Led module led strip led bulbs. These incidents have cost the City almost $400,000 in replacement and repair costs.

The Concord City Council will hear a presentation by Interim Public Works Director Mike Miller on this issue at its meeting on Tuesday, May 1, beginning at 6:30 p.m. in the City Council Chambers at Civic Center, 1950 Parkside Drive. The presentation will include a plea to the public to assist the City in stopping the thieves who damage City and private property.

"The replacement costs for copper wire theft and related repairs as a result of vandalism were not a significant issue in the past ten years and, therefore, not projected in past budgets," said Miller. "As the value of copper wire has increased, incidents of copper wire theft has increased substantially. This is not just a City of Concord phenomenon; it has become a problem nationwide."

Wire theft is one of the major contributing factors to the growing backlog of service requests to repair streetlights and park lights. Although numerous efforts have been made to make it harder for the thieves to access the wire, many locations have been hit five to seven times, giving the public the impression that no repairs have been completed.

The public is welcome to attend the meeting to hear the presentation or view the meeting broadcast on Concord cable TV channel 28 (Comcast), channel 29 (Astound) and AT&T U-verse channel 99.
