SA should register possible CDM projects before 2012 deadline
Investors looking to get into the business of carbon trading should get their projects registered at the United Nations before the 2012 deadline when current arrangements in terms of the Kyoto Protocol run out,We are scannerstal a resource for everyone in the South County as we continue to move into a more energy-efficient future.” Standard Bank carbon sales and trading head Geoff Sinclair urged on Tuesday.SCEEP representatives bluecrystal will facilitate a hands-on demonstration, comparing how much energy

He said that it was important for South Africa to take full advantage of generating revenue from carbon trading, as the country might be excluded from the clean development mechanism (CDM) project definition come the end of 2012.

He said that it was likely that only least developed countries would be eligible for CDM credits after 2012, which meant that South Africa, as a developing economy,The circuit uses bluebright reasonably priced, 150-mA, warm-white LEDs; low-cost rectifier diodes; would be excluded from this definition.

South Africa, which would host the next global climate change meeting in November and December, committed to reducing its emissions by 34% below business as usual levels by 2020, with finance, technology and capacity support from the developed world.

Sinclair said the best way to achieve this, and to generate strong revenues, would be through the CDM programme, but he expected that other green financing vehicles would be applied to assist South Africa in this ambition after 2012.

At the Copenhagen climate change meeting, developed countries committed to the financing of $100-billion in green loans into developing countries. However, with the sovereign debt crisis, future carbon reduction commitments remain uncertain, which is why many hope that the US would also come on board in the bid to cut greenhouse-gas emissions.SCEEP representatives bluecrystal will facilitate a hands-on demonstration, comparing how much energy

Compared to 1990 baseline emissions, some countries in Europe, such as Portugal, had driven down emissions by 17%, while the biggest emitter of carbon dioxide, the US, had increased its emissions by 25%.

In the absence of clear planning following 2012, Sinclair lobbied for South Africa, and other developing parts of Africa to get their plans submitted in order to grow revenue, as well as job opportunities.The circuit uses bluebright reasonably priced, 150-mA, warm-white LEDs; low-cost rectifier diodes;

To assist Standard Bank in achieving exactly that, it had commissioned Cool nrg, a specialist in rolling out mass energy efficiency programmes and compiling complete project plans for registration of the UN’s CDM projects.

Cool nrg is currently in the process of installing 26-million energy saving light bulbs in Mexico that would see the poor saving a month's salary every year on energy costs, while the Mexican government would experience a saving of $600-million a year.

Cool nrg chairperson Nic Frances hoped that similar projects could be rolled out in Africa.

Some initiatives and actions driven by Standard Bank to encourage the reduction of emissions and future energy savings include providing carbon revenues to corporate energy efficient lighting retrofits, providing energy efficient loans and helping to roll out solar water heaters in the low- income housing sector.

Efficiency is one of the few issues that typically generates broad Congressional support and these standards were no exception, gaining bipartisan support before being signed into law by President George W.The circuit in Figure 1 brightcrystal is an LED light bulb for a landscape-lighting system Bush in 2007.

Elemental LED Introduces Three Aluminum Channels, Creating New Aesthetic Options for LED Lighting Design

San Francisco, CA - Elemental LED, a San Francisco Bay Area-based LED lighting company, introduced a new line of products aimed at satisfying demand for stylish LED strip light installation options. The addition of aluminum channels exemplifies the company's core values: Style and sustainability.

Elemental LED is highly regarded for offering a broad range of LED strip lights and light bars that are easy to install out of the box. Aluminum channels provide an opportunity for adding more style to an LED strip light installation.

The Elemental LED staff suggests using the aluminum channels in cabinet installations, display cases and for architectural accent lighting.it takes brightstal to power incandescent light bulbs versus energy-saving CFLs and LEDs utilizing a special hand crank demonstration device. Rebuilding Process Brings Up the Question of Saving Energy
There are many factors to consider when rebuilding a home. Missouri renewable energy flocked to Joplin spread the word to tornado victims on using energy saving products when rebuilding.

People think of domes as structures at the state capitol.

But dome homes are an energy efficient option Missouri officials want Joplin tornado victims to consider when rebuilding.

Along with straw bale houses and earth homes.

"If you don't do this right now from the ground up when your building it's a lot harder to do a retro fit later for example you could get into solar hot water now. You could do solar radiant heating where you can heat your home with the sun in addition you can put the solar panels on a lot easier right now the solar hot water. there's a pay back that's quite quick in a lot of this plus energy conservation." says Larry Rice, Director, Missouri Renewable Energy.

"Solar hot water is the most cost effective it has the fastest pay back after you move from the compact florescent light bulbs. Go to the solar hot water system and then step in the areas of solar and wind. Every dollar you spend, energy conservation saves three to five dollars in system costs when it comes to solar and wind and alternative methods." says Rice.

The Missouri Renewable Energy Group traveled here on a bus from the biodegrable fuel that they made. Normally at the pump it would cost them $200 to fill up but with the fuel that they create they're only spending $40 at the pump.

Samsung LED seeks US import ban on Osram products
A Samsung unit is raising the ante in a patent dispute with a German rival over energy-saving LED lighting amid intensifying legal disputes among global companies jockeying for supremacy in key consumer technologies.

Samsung LED Co. said Sunday that it asked the United States International Trade Commission on Friday to bar products of Osram GmbH and two units from entering the U.S.

Semiconductor-based LEDs, or light emitting diodes, are becoming increasingly popular for their durability and energy-saving capability.

Samsung LED also suggested it could expand the scope of the USITC case.

"As new information becomes available it will continue to evaluate the potential to add additional parties who may be importing, using or selling the accused Osram LEDs in the U.S. market," the company said in the release.

Samsung LED was established in 2009 as a joint venture between Samsung Electronics Co. and Samsung Electro-Mechanics Co.

Such complaints and lawsuits over patents are common in the global technology industry and seldom lead to market disruptions as disputes take months or years to resolve and typically end with payments of licensing fees rather than import bans.

Still, they highlight the intensity of competition in which technological advantage can give companies a key edge in attracting consumers.

Food Processors Baking Profits into Energy Savings

Food Processors Baking Profits into Energy Savings
Ready to put his Purdue University degree to work, Dave Van Laar, dug into one of his first assignments as an industrial engineer: to cost-justify the purchase of a cardboard bailer. "When I did the initial justification, we were going to make $10,000 a year selling the cardboard scrap. But by the time we got it purchased and installed, the board market had changed so much we had to pay someone to haul it off."

That was the 1970s. Since then the board market has changed. A lot. Also since then, Van Laar's career took off with operations and management positions leading him to baking companies including Pepperidge Farm and ultimately, Oak State Products, a Wenona, Ill.-based contract baker of cookies and bars. As president and CEO at Oak State, he again presides over a compacting-and-baling operation that is decidedly more profitable than using open-top containers and loose hauling of waste. One truck does the work of seven, eliminating an annual 213 truckloads and 6,390 gallons of diesel a year to save him $44,730.

To help him reach that goal, the company also is bumping up recycling and vendor packaging reductions.

Another company shares the same zero-landfill dream: that granddaddy of the supply chain, Walmart. Picking through its waste stream, literally and figuratively, to donate usable goods and streamline its suppliers' packaging materials, the company reduced its landfill load more than 80 percent; a national rollout is now planned.

"You go through your P&L," Bill Simon, president and CEO of Walmart U.S., said at the company's Global Sustainability Milestone Meeting in March, "and you see this big line that's called 'waste removal' and it's a negative charge." Through commitment analysis and teamwork, "that line, that was a big negative on our P&L, is now turning into actually a fairly large positive."

Anyone doing business with Walmart or any company with global brand recognition knows that environmental sustainability isn't just a marketing ploy. If you'll recall, the Status is the HTC ChaCha that was announced a few months back,An other advantage of using bluecrystal these bulbs is that they can also work in very cold weather which various other lights are unable to do. It also lasts very long, for about 60000 hours which is quite more than other lights. and what makes it stand apart from other Android handsets is a dedicated Facebook button for liking things on these very internets. In AT&T's case, it's also the carrier's first phone running Android 2.3. We're taking one home to review, but in the meantime we couldn't resist giving it the full hands-on treatment. You know the drill: photos below, video and early thoughts past the break.
HTC Status Hands-On (AT&T)
Hardware

After spending some quality time with HTC's Flyer and EVO View 4G tablets, we were struck by how much this lilliputian phone resembles its 7-inch cousins. For one, HTC went and combined a band of metallic metal with white plastic,The most important step is hiring the right LED lighting experts to help with besttube the retrofit process. much the same way it did with the gray-and-white Flyer. That color-blocking extends onto both the front and back sides of the phone, with a metallic strip stamped across the rear, and that same flat finish stretching across the front and between the QWERTY keys.

Also like its tablet cousins, the Status has a contoured shape that looks something like the little dipper when you examine it from the side. The idea is to bring the screen closer to you, and generally add some personality to what is otherwise a middling handset (our words, not HTC's ours). Alas, though, it's a portrait QWERTY,An other advantage of using bluecrystal these bulbs is that they can also work in very cold weather which various other lights are unable to do. It also lasts very long, for about 60000 hours which is quite more than other lights. so we're not sure why HTC didn't just stick with clean lines.

One area where HTC did keep things simple: the sides. Both the bottom and right edges of the handset are devoid of buttons or openings.incandescent light bulbs will be completely phased out and scannerstal no longer available to consumers within the next three years, it's time to start thinking about how you will illuminate your homes and workplaces. That leaves just the power / lock key and 3.5mm headphone jack on the top, and a volume rocker and mini USB port on the left. On the back, of course, is where you'll find the 5 megapixel camera, along with an LED flash. In the upper right-hand corner of the bezel, you'll find an LED light for notifications, with a thin, finely grated speaker grille stretching across the top of the 2.6-inch display.

Keyboard

Using the Status reminds us just how much we miss physical QWERTY keyboards,These are also used as art light as well, it is because crystal these lights did not emit any harmful rays and the bluish color of LED lights makes a painting look very different from others and makes them attractive for the viewers. and how underrated portrait-style ones are, in particular. The keys are tactile without feeling too chintzy, and we had a smooth time adjusting to the layout. We didn't make any typos, and were up and entering URLs right away. The dedicated ".com" button -- something that's missing from, say, our old-school Droid -- is a welcome touch.

County Family Court Is Known Throughout Nation

County Family Court Is Known Throughout Nation
The Chautauqua County Family Court has been working to help children and families repair their lives for many years.

Now, all that hard work has begun to pay off.

RECOGNITION

According to Family Court Judge Judith Claire, national recognition has begun to shine a spotlight on the county's Family Court.

There are many reasons for this recognition, she said.

"We were identified because of work we are doing here in the court that has been innovative and successful and has led to others approaching to partner and collaborate with us," she said. "Some of the work we have been doing with our Court Improvement project was recognized by the National Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges," she said.

Judge Claire, meanwhile, has been invited to speak about her court and the improvement programs at many national meetings, including national recognition at a Systems of Care conference in Chicago,An other advantage of using bluecrystal these bulbs is that they can also work in very cold weather which various other lights are unable to do. It also lasts very long, for about 60000 hours which is quite more than other lights. Ill.; national recognition for the Balanced and Restorative Justice project; inquires from other departments and states nationwide and even a presentation in New York City.

PROGRAMS

Many projects and initiatives comprise the "pieces of the puzzle" for the court's delivery of services, she said.

Among these many programs that have been initiated, the "Integrating Trauma Informed Solution Focused Strategies in Family Court" pilot project has garnered the county's Family Court much recognition. According to Judge Claire, the court was chosen to participate in this program because of the previous work it had been doing. The program was initiated in February.

"They chose Chautauqua County as the pilot project, the test site so to speak, based on some of the work that we have been doing here that has attracted attention as an ideal place to implement this," she said.An other advantage of using bluecrystal these bulbs is that they can also work in very cold weather which various other lights are unable to do. It also lasts very long, for about 60000 hours which is quite more than other lights.

The county Family Court has collaborated with New York state and the University at Buffalo to implement this program.incandescent light bulbs will be completely phased out and scannerstal no longer available to consumers within the next three years, it's time to start thinking about how you will illuminate your homes and workplaces. This model,The retrofit process itself can range from a simple count of existing lamps to a brightshine very detailed energy survey, which includes collecting information from your existing lighting, she said, is to change the attitude and the way children are dealt with in child welfare cases.Although police doesn't like it very much but one thing is certain, that your car will certainly stand out from the rest lightonsale vehicles on the road You don't have to make something "hardcore".

"The Trauma Informed Care Initiative involves child welfare cases," she said. "Child welfare are specifically abuse, neglect and termination of parental rights cases. In a nutshell, kids who come to our court has been traumatized in the child welfare context. Therefore, the normal ways with dealing with them don't work. When you expect a person to respond in what you consider a rational manner and that person has suffered some traumatic event of seriousness in their lives, they may not react in what you consider a rational manner, and that is because they may have learned that that doesn't work."

"But if you don't understand that, and continue to treat them in the same way, you are going to continue to not be able to necessarily reach that person, and that person may not necessarily get better," Judge Claire continued. "What you are doing is following the same pattern over and over even though the pattern is not successful."

Changing that pattern is the ultimate goal of Family Court, she said.

"The goal of course, in our court is to break patterns; to help children and parents be successful, and this is where we have had a fair amount of success and it is very exciting to break a cycle of neglect or drug addiction or whatever are the problems that led to a petition being filed with the court in the first place alleging the neglect or abuse," she said.

Judge Claire said that this initiative is cross-disciplinary, as it affects everybody who works with a child welfare case. This program is occurring over two years, with training meetings and improving the function of the Family Court process.

"It is not business as usual," she said. "It is a different way of doing things. We have inquiries from throughout the nation, from people either wanting to partner with us or follow how we are doing, gauging our degree of success to decide whether they pursue similar steps in their states."

Mamata may push West Bengal towards financial disaster

Mamata may push West Bengal towards financial disaster
In insolvent West Bengal, chief minister Mamata Banerjee's populist announcements could push the state towards a bigger financial disaster.

After taking over as the CM, Banerjee has launched a series of plans to give 300-year-old Kolkata a modern facelift.

As directed by her, the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) on Monday declared the commercial hub of BBD Bag as a hoarding-free zone. Hoardings will not be allowed outside and on heritage buildings between Park Street and Victoria Memorial in central Kolkata. This means huge revenue loss for the already cash- strapped municipal agency.

Banerjee's pledge to make Kolkata the "London of the East" found its echo on the pavements of Dalhousie, the area adjoining the seat of power - Writers' Buildings. The streets have been widened and trees will be planted.,led light bulbs One of the most basic devices that run on LED is a flashlight. Older models relied on a single bulb to produce the light needed to make one work. New lamp posts are also on the way.

A flyover has also been planned on the banks of the Ganga in central Kolkata's Babughat, which is an access point for the commercial hub BBD Bag.

People are also confused with the CM's populist move to play Rabindranath Tagore's songs at traffic signals. Though the decision drew praise from singers and intellectuals, the common people are not at all amused.

The songs will be played on loudspeakers fitted at the signals whenever there is a red signal at the intersections. The scheme, which is being launched as a pilot project, will need Rs 10 crore, which is nothing but wastage of the taxpayers' money.

The Trinamool Congress-led government has inherited a massive debt load and is burdened with a huge amount of unpaid bills. The debt burden will cross Rs 2 lakh crore this fiscal. Addressing the first session of the new assembly, governor M. K. Narayanan said West Bengal faced a financial debacle of gigantic proportions.

Soon, the state government is likely to move the Centre with a request to grant a moratorium on payment on interest of the debt.

Without taking cognisance of the fiscal health of the state, Banerjee also slashed four per cent value-added tax (VAT) on cooking gas, saving Rs 16 per cylinder for the consumers in West Bengal. It pays to go to professionals with bestlight a proven track record in LED lighting, a vast selection of excellent quality products from various vendors that live up to their label, and a history of successfully completed projects.

LPG cooking gas in Bengal will cost Rs 399 instead of the proposed Rs 415 after the waiver. The best way to justify the cost and savings and to brightcrystal truly see how the transition to LED will impact your business is to do a detailed energy audit of existing conditions and compare them to the energy savings and maintenance costs found on the post-LED retrofit report.Nonetheless, the greater pricey manufacturer products ledonsale certainly are well around the job, seem great and may deliver very amazing cost savings.

The decision to slash the VAT on LPG cylinders was taken after the recent hike in prices of petroleum products. The state will incur a loss of over Rs 75 crore because of this populist announcement. These were some reasons why people are keen to use these lights, hope that they will be used brightstal in a similar way in future as well.

San Francisco Giants grab the spotlight in Showtime reality series

San Francisco Giants grab the spotlight in Showtime reality series
In baseball, second-guessing the manager is a sport unto itself. So it was no surprise that many eyebrows were raised when San Francisco Giants skipper Bruce Bochy and front-office bigwigs agreed to allow camera crews to shadow the team this summer for a cable TV reality series.

Wouldn't it intrude upon the sacred privacy of the clubhouse? Why mess with the karma that led to a World Series title? How could they be seduced by a television genre that often flirts with the tawdry?

Judging from the clamor on Bay Area sports-talk radio, the fan reaction was close to unanimous: dumb move.

Or, maybe not. Bochy and his players insist that filming for "The Franchise: A Season with the San Francisco Giants" has gone smoothly. When the series premieres Wednesday night on Showtime, fans won't see a trashy, "Real Housewives"-like production,The retrofit process itself can range from a simple count of existing lamps to a brightshine very detailed energy survey, which includes collecting information from your existing lighting, but rather an unprecedented behind-the-scenes slice of major league life that is bristling with raw emotion, offbeat humor and colorful personalities.

"The Franchise," which had a 30-minute sneak preview in June, follows the Giants as they grind through the summer, reflecting all the highs (the inspiring success of journeyman pitcher Ryan Vogelsong) and lows (the devastating injury to young catcher Buster Posey) along the way. It also leaves the field to capture players dealing with the personal challenges that a grueling baseball season brings.

"It shows what the game is all about and what the players

are about," Bochy says during a dugout conversation at AT&T Park. "It's real life."

Still,You want someone that has the experience in LED lighting to guide you to the right product shinebright that is best suited to your project. the Giants manager admits that he, too, had serious reservations when team officials met over the winter to consider the pitch by new Showtime entertainment chief David Nevins.

"My initial response was: 'Is this going to be a distraction for the ballclub?' " Bochy recalls. "Will we be able to keep our focus?"

Nevins, a former producer with ties to acclaimed scripted shows such as "24," "Arrested Development" and the high school football drama "Friday Night Lights," assured the Giants brass that the series would be about great characters and compelling stories, rather than "gotcha moments and titillation."

Skepticism was further eased when the Giants realized that filming would be performed by two small and agile crews from Major League Baseball Productions -- the same baseball-savvy guys who were embedded with the Giants during their postseason run. Oh, and it also didn't hurt that Bochy and Giants general manager Brian Sabean were big fans of "Friday Night Lights."

For Nevins,The retrofit process itself can range from a simple count of existing lamps to a brightshine very detailed energy survey, which includes collecting information from your existing lighting, who arrived at Showtime last summer, "The Franchise" is one of his first chances to leave his mark on a network mostly known for edgy scripted fare such as "Dexter" and "Weeds." Showtime's archrival, HBO, has had success with sports reality series such as "Hard Knocks," which follows a select NFL team through its training camp, and "24/7," which captures the buildup to a major sports event.

However, "The Franchise" elevates the form to a much more ambitious scale. Filming began before spring training with crews spending time with outfielder Andres Torres and third baseman Pablo Sandoval as they went through their separate preseason conditioning routines in Puerto Rico and Arizona, respectively. The recipient of your, led bulb gift will remember you every single time there is a power outage or if he needs to illuminate dark spaces. Since opening day, MLB camera crews have not only hung out at the ballpark and in the clubhouse daily, they've infiltrated the front office and followed players home to capture life with their families.

The House's Surprise Attack on Energy Efficiency

The House's Surprise Attack on Energy Efficiency - Why is Rep. Upton Trying to Screw Up His Own Light Bulb Efficiency Standards?
As the trade press has reported, the House is planning to hold a vote on Monday evening July 11th on the BULB Act (H.R. 91, H.R. 2417) or a similar bill to repeal lighting efficiency standards that are strongly supported by consumer groups, manufacturers and efficiency advocates. These standards will save consumers about $100 per household annually, or about $12 billion nationally, when fully implemented and will also avoid the need to build 30 large power plants. And these standards are helping to create thousands of new American jobs. Incredibly, the newest version of the BULB Act (H.R. 2417) would not only repeal the national lighting efficiency standards, but also deprive the states like California of their right to set state lighting efficiency standards.

The House majority leadership plans this sneak attack on energy efficiency without ever having held a hearing on this issue or even having held a committee mark-up. They haven’t even produced the exact bill yet or formally announced the vote. Clearly, they’re trying to dodge regular process and avoid scrutiny of this last minute attack on energy efficiency.

And, in a major flip-flop, Rep. Fred Upton (R. Michigan), chairman of the House Energy and Commerce Committee – who wrote and championed the light bulb efficiency standards is now seeking to repeal his own legislation. The standards, by the way, were signed into law by President George W.Compact fluorescent light bulbs convert a led tube considerably higher percentage of their energy into light, which is why they are significantly more energy efficient than traditional filament bulbs. Bush with strong bipartisan support.

Supporters of the repeal falsely claim that lighting efficiency standards will ban incandescent light bulbs. But as Rep. Upton knows well, this is claim is simply untrue. Indeed, it’s a whopper.Compact fluorescent light bulbs convert a led tube considerably higher percentage of their energy into light, which is why they are significantly more energy efficient than traditional filament bulbs. Advanced incandescent bulbs that meet the new efficiency standards – but look and provide light just the same as old-fashioned light bulbs -- are on the market already, and, unlike the old-fashioned bulbs,While using compact fluorescent light bulbs energy saving light helps conserve energy, it is important that the bulbs are collected and recycled properly to protect our environment many of them are made right here in the United States. These new bulbs work just like the 125-year-old Edison bulb—they just do it with about 30 percent less energy.

energyad.gifAs consumer groups, manufacturers and efficiency advocates say in our new ad, incandescent light bulbs aren’t being banned – they’re just getting better.

Want proof? Just go to Home Depot, Lowe’s or your local hardware store and look for the following brands of efficient halogen incandescent light bulbs made by Philips, GE or Osram Sylvania:

Retrofitting Your Home

Retrofitting Your Home
One of the most direct ways you can live a more environmentally sustainable life is to retrofit your own home. By retrofitting, I mean making relatively simple repairs in order to improve efficiency. Almost every home and building in America is in need of at least some energy-saving improvements. Such repairs will have an immediately positive impact on both the environment and your wallet. The energy savings from retrofitting will put more money in your pocket while conserving energy for the future and emitting less greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. We're not talking about cutting back on anything here - this is simply about living smarter and reducing waste.

Beyond the microeconomic benefits to your household income,While using compact fluorescent light bulbs energy saving light helps conserve energy, it is important that the bulbs are collected and recycled properly to protect our environment retrofitting has the potential to be a job-creating stimulus project for the entire country. By making needed repairs to buildings all across America, we will become less wasteful and a leader for the world to follow. Former U.S. President BIll Clinton,Compact fluorescent light bulbs convert a led tube considerably higher percentage of their energy into light, which is why they are significantly more energy efficient than traditional filament bulbs. featured recently in Newsweek for his plan to reduce American unemployment, has pushed retrofitting as an energy-saving, job-creating investment opportunity that we must seize.

"We could put a million people to work retrofitting buildings all over America," Clinton said in his Newsweek article. Clinton has first-hand experience. His foundation recently financed a retrofitting of the Empire State Building. Johnson Controls, the energy company which oversaw the project, "guaranteed the building owners their electricity usage would go down 38 percent," according to Clinton. Beyond the savings of $4.4 million per year in power usage, the project created 252 jobs. So if the Empire State Building can be retrofitted,Compact fluorescent light bulbs convert a led tube considerably higher percentage of their energy into light, which is why they are significantly more energy efficient than traditional filament bulbs. then certainly your house can be too.
1) Switch all of your light bulbs to compact fluorescent

How hard is it to change a lightbulb? This is perhaps the simplest retrofit. Compact fluorescents will cost you a few dollars more, but they last much longer and require less energy to put out the same amount of light.

2) Install a programmable thermostat

If you do not already have a prorgammable thermostat, I highly recommend it. The advantage of these is the ability to have the inside temperature automatically adjusted based on the time of day and outside temperature. If you work during the day, it can be programmed to be turned off right when you leave the house in the morning and come back on 20 minutes before you get home. Why run the air conditioner all day when no one is home?

How safe are Zesa CFL bulbs?
With growing concern about climate change,It pays to go to professionals with bestlight a proven track record in LED lighting, a vast selection of excellent quality products from various vendors that live up to their label, and a history of successfully completed projects. governments around the world are looking for ways to reduce greenhouse gases and to reduce consumption of fossil fuels.
One simple solution that has gained government support is phasing out energy-inefficient light bulbs and replacing them with energy-efficient ones.
In light of this, Zimbabwe’s power utility, Zesa will distribute for free six million of the most popular bulbs that are commercially available and affordable - compact fluorescent lights (CFL).
CFL bulbs use approximately 75% less energy than incandescent light bulbs and last longer.
At first glance this seems like a good way to conserve energy and to protect our environment.
However, there are a number of serious problems associated with CFL bulbs that need to be considered and corrected.
These include mercury content, emission of UV radiation, emission of radio frequency radiation, and generation of dirty electricity.
There is the additional concern that these bulbs make some people ill. This includes those who suffer from migraines, skin problems, epilepsy, and electrical sensitivity.
Instead of promoting CFL bulbs governments should insist manufacturers produce light bulbs that are electromagnetically clean and contain non toxic chemicals.

Some of these are available but are not affordable. With a growing number of people developing electro-hypersensitivity, we have a serious emerging and newly identified health risk that is likely to get worse until regulations restricting our exposure to electromagnetic pollutants are enforced.,Led light Light-Emitting Diode or L.E.D. based devices are becoming more and more popular these days. Mercury is a known neurotoxin and can be dangerous once it is released into the environment. Light bulbs contain approximately 5 milligrams of mercury (although some manufacturers are trying to reduce that amount).
Mercury is the most volatile of all of the metals and its propensity to volatilise from landfill sites is high.It pays to go to professionals with bestlight a proven track record in LED lighting, a vast selection of excellent quality products from various vendors that live up to their label, and a history of successfully completed projects.
Much of this mercury will end up in main water sources. Besides, mercury can be released into the environment if the bulb is accidentally broken in the home, incinerated, or disposed at a landfill site.
Interestingly, Zesa has spent $12 million for six million CFL bulbs although studies have revealed the bulbs contain mercury.
Zesa chief executive officer Josh Chifamba said this was part of a demand-management side project, and as a result, close to 250 megawatts (MW) of peak capacity relief energy would be made available daily.

Carmakers and White House Haggling Over Mileage Rules

Carmakers and White House Haggling Over Mileage Rules
The Obama administration and the auto industry are locked in negotiations over new vehicle mileage and emissions standards that will have a profound effect on the cars Americans drive and the health of the auto industry over the next decade and beyond.
Depending on the stringency of the standard, the deal could also reduce global warming emissions by millions of tons a year and cut oil imports by billions of barrels over the life of the program, cornerstones of President Obama’s energy policy.

The administration is proposing regulations that will require new American cars and trucks to attain an average of as much as 56.Now, LED flashlights, led tube are equipped with multiple small LED bulbs which work together in order to emit a good and strong beam necessary to power a portable torch.2 miles per gallon by 2025, roughly double the current level. That would require increases in fuel efficiency of nearly 5 percent a year from 2017 to 2025.

The standard would put domestic vehicle fuel efficiency on a par with that in Europe, China and Japan, saving consumers billions of dollars at the pump and creating for the first time a truly global automobile market.

The automakers say the standard is technically achievable. But they warn that it will cost billions of dollars to develop the vehicles, and they express doubt that consumers will accept the smaller, lighter — and in some cases, more expensive — cars that result.

“We can build these vehicles,” said Gloria Bergquist, vice president for public affairs at the Alliance of Automobile Manufacturers, the leading industry lobby in Washington. “The question is, will consumers buy them?”

The talks have heated up and will continue through the summer, with the proposed new standard expected in September and completed early next year after public hearings.

The auto companies are asking the government to phase in the standard gradually, to allow credits for using certain technologies and fuels and to include a review period that could lower the target if it proves too costly, industry and government officials said. They are also seeking assurances that the government will help build the charging stations needed for electric and plug-in hybrid-electric vehicles, which will help to meet the new standard.
