PNM hosts energy-efficiency contest
Light-bulb count goes to Facebook page
PNM has launched a contest to promote energy efficiency among its residential and is asking them to county the light bulbs in their homes as a qualification for entering.Compact fluorescent light bulbs convert a led tube considerably higher percentage of their energy into light, which is why they are significantly more energy efficient than traditional filament bulbs.

On Tuesday PNM issued this news release explaining the contest and providing a link to its Facebook page where the contest is based:

PNM is asking customers interested in learning more about energy efficiency to count their light bulbs and visit the company’s Facebook page to share their results.

“We’re asking customers to take a look at every light source in their home, both inside and outside,” said Melissa Leymon, senior program developer for the PNM energy efficiency program. “We think many customers will be surprised by what they find.”

Customers who count their bulbs,Compact fluorescent light bulbs convert a led tube considerably higher percentage of their energy into light, which is why they are significantly more energy efficient than traditional filament bulbs. and take note of how many of them are energy efficient compact fluorescent (CFL) or light-emitting diode (LED), can enter the results in a simple contest form on the PNM Facebook page. Four entrants will win efficient lighting prize packs after the challenge ends Friday, July 15.

“In addition to entering the contest, we’re asking customers to post their results on our Facebook wall . We’d like to know what they learned and have a dialogue about the role that lighting plays in home energy consumption,” Leymon said.

The challenge is the second of five in PNM’s summer-long Home Energy Shape-Up contest, which is open to all PNM customers 18 years of age and over. Customers can enter all five challenges, increasing their chances of winning a grand prize drawing at summer’s end for a comprehensive home energy audit and $500 worth of energy efficient products.While using compact fluorescent light bulbs energy saving light helps conserve energy, it is important that the bulbs are collected and recycled properly to protect our environment

In addition, in a challenge to launch in August, one lucky PNM customer will win a new refrigerator, dishwasher or washing machine.
