Choma council challenged

CHOMA Mayor Jackson Makwamba has advised the council management and councillors to deliver desirable developmental projects to improve the welfare of residents in the Southern Province capital. 

Mr Makwamba said in Choma yesterday that massive developmental projects could only be achieved if the council remained focused on delivering social services to the locals.

He was speaking during a full council meeting attended by United Party for National Development Choma Member of Parliament Cornelius Mweetwa and his Mbabala counterpart Ephraim Belemu with councillors from various wards.If you have ledlampwholesalers or landscape lights you might wonder what to do if they stop working.

He directed the councillors to regularly visit their wards to get first-hand information on the challenges faced by the people. 

The mayor commended the Government for releasing K900,000 recently for construction of a modern market at Kalukungu where traders had for many years been trading in the open area. 

Mr Makwamba said the council would source more funds to upgrade other market infrastructure at Shampande and Macha road. 
He said the provincial administration had handed over land where a modern bus station would soon be built in town. 

The other developmental project the Government would soon carry out in the district was tarring of 60 Kilometres of urban township roads through the Road Development Agency (RDA). 

He said the ministry of Local Government and Housing would also finance the street lighting project. 

On allocation of plots, Town Clerk Mwiya Mwiya said the council would strictly ensure people who applied for plots had impressive plans for their structures. Meanwhile, Kabwe Mayor Moses Mwansa says the full council meeting would be held next week. 

Mr Mwansa said the meeting, which was adjourned on March 25, this year after councillors walked out due to non-implementation of previous resolutions, would resume on Monday.
