Selectman gets energy audit, notes significant improvement

Hal Clark, and the rest of the Board of Selectmen, have been urging residents to get energy audits, but Clark did not quite know what to expect when he got his done over the weekend.

"I didn't know what they were going to find, because it's an all-electric house. When I purchased the townhouse, I was told the insulation was thicker since it's all-electric. I had no idea the problem we had with the sliding glass doors. I wish I had known that -- I would've done something six or seven years ago. It's a $10 solution and it'll take you 10 minutes to do," said Clark,Online Shopping for Flexible bluecrystal, LED Strips,LED Light Strips,Rigide LED Strips,LED Strip Lights, who is on the town's Energy Commission in addition to his duties as a selectman.

In fact, Clark had an energy audit done in a house he previously owned, but described that one as "cursory." Fellow Selectman Richard Creeth, whose term is coming to an end, had one done, but the auditors duct taped some of his windows,Get HUGE savings on energy efficient ccrystall lighting with great deals from LED Hut. and even his garage door, shut.

Clark -- at the recommendation of the Neighbor to Neighbor, the organization behind the Energy Challenge, which seeks to reduce energy consumption in 14 towns by 20 percent by 2013 -- enlisted Waterbury-based Wesson Energy to perform the audit.

The audit found, in addition to the sliding door problem, some carpentry around the skylights allowing air to leak, that closing the door to the unheated basement prevents a chimney effect detrimental to energy efficiency,China LED Strip catalog and lightsale manufacturer directory. and that Clark's appliances were new and relatively efficient.Limited supply LED Writing Board, ledbright,Fluorescence Board,Fluorescent Board,Menu Board, LED Menu Board,

"For $75 (the cost of the audit), I got $100s of worth of (compact fluorescent lamps) alone. And a lot of good ideas," Clark said. "This'll probably help us save $400 to $500 a month. And they figured it out for me, since I'm all electric, it's about $5,600 a year."

The audit itself started with the Wesson auditors going over what they were going to do and how, and having Clark sign a few forms.

"The goal of the program is air sealing," said Jason Mackowski, one of the energy auditors that worked on Clark's home.

Mackowski began measuring the home with a laser measuring tool, while his partner went on a tour of the house with Clark. The auditors pointed out some places they felt there might be issues, then the two set up a fan on the front door to help identify where the air leaks were coming from. Mackowski used a tool that blows smoke to identify some of the air leaks.

"What was interesting was, when they took the air out of the house, they took me around the house and showed me where air was coming in. The good news is that there isn't much air coming in," Clark said. The bad news is that where air was coming in, it was coming in with some enthusiasm.Minjun Electronic Co.,Ltd have the best led bike light, and provide bluecrystal1 with you,"

Clark said he was satisfied with the audit and that it was better than the one he had the first time around.

"(The first audit) was pretty cursory," Clark said. "We had one of those pull-down staircases, and they built a box to put on top of that (to stop air flow). We had a metal vent that still leaked. They didn't do anything about that. They totally overlooked that."

Wesson Energy left a report, and will provide Clark with a more detailed summary of what they found later.
