Barbecue and Blues – it will be here soon
Hundreds of local folks who attended the Old Town Spring Festival and Chili Cook Off last week stopped at the Elk Grove Community Foundation booth.

Spotlight at the Ranch committee members and Foundation Board members sold tickets for the event and passed out information about the Barbecue and Blues Sunday afternoon that will take place on June 12.

This fundraising event for the Elk Grove Community Foundation is all about scholarships, and with the cost of attending college these days, our students need all the help they can get.

The Elk Grove Community Foundation’s entire purpose is to provide scholarships for local youth, which the nonprofit has been doing since 1987. With community support in mind, now is the time to get your tickets for Elk Grove’s great Sunday afternoon of Barbecue and Blues at Spotlight at the Ranch on Grant Line Road.

Tickets can be obtained at various businesses in Elk Grove including El Jardin Restaurant (9385 Elk Grove Blvd.), Raley’s Bel Air (Waterman and Elk Grove Boulevard). Tickets are also available from members of the Foundation’s Board of Directors, and on line at www.egcommunityfoundation.org.

Visitors to the foundation booth also purchased tickets for the raffle of the beautiful quilt that was on display. For the past three years, Lynda Tallerico, local volunteer and active Spotlight committee member, has created and donated a very impressive quilt for Spotlight. The quilt will be on display at various local places, and raffle tickets are available for $5 each.

The Mosher family is generously offering the use of their historic ranch at 10161 Grant Line Road for Spotlight, and that in itself makes Barbecue and Blues very special.

Co-chairs Marsha Holmes and Marie Coleman and their hard working creative committee members have a variety of activities planned for families,These lights are adopted by the various security lightbright agencies as these are the best lights to use with a security camera or a security device. and one of the highlights will be a docent led tour of the historic family house that dates back to 1885.

The Blues music entertainment, tours of the historic Mosher House, parking, and children’s activities such as face painting are included in the ticket price. The Spotlight at the Ranch entertainment will feature three well-known musical groups: Mick Martin and the Blues Rockers, The Kyle Rowland Band, and Nat Brown. The three groups will have something for everyone with the variety of music that they will have. This is what you can expect from them.

Mick Martin and the Blues Rockers: It’s Mick Martin’s 25th anniversary, and the band is celebrating by performing for Spotlight at the Ranch in addition to many concerts, festivals, casinos, clubs, and the California State Fair. Martin sings and also plays harmonica. Others in the group are Tim Barnes, Steve Schofer, Russ Skarsten, and Bruce Pressley. Martin was honored last year by the California State Assembly and the city of Sacramento for his work on stage, radio and as a lecturer/historian,The most important step is hiring the right LED lighting experts to help with besttube the retrofit process. and he was inducted into Sacramento’s Blues Hall of Fame. As many say, “this is a band that loves and respects its audience while playing its original and classic blues numbers with passion and excitement.”

The Kyle Rowland Band: Kyle Rowland is a Sacramento star who is still a teenager but has been in the music business since he was a young child. It is said that his father put a harmonica in his crib, and he used it as a pacifier and teething ring. Kyle took lessons from Mick, and he considers him to be “one of the best blues harmonica players in Northern California.” It is likely that Spotlight at the Ranch will feel the same way about both Kyle and Mick.
