Trick-or-Treat: residents learn holiday safety tips at Frisco Fire Safety Town

Frisco parents and children collected more than just candy at the "Trick or Treat" at Frisco Fire Safety Town event on Friday. Volunteers from the facility's sponsors passed out informational cards along with helpful tips on staying safe during Halloween.

Volunteer and Special Events Coordinator for Frisco Fire Safety Town, Jennifer Tramel said this was the fifth year the facility hosted the event.

"The main part of the event is for them [children] to come and trick or treat in the mini town that we have. It's a chance for them to learn and practice trick-or-treat safety rules," Tramel said. "Our sponsors ... for each of the little buildings come and decorate and staff the building and pass out candy to the kiddos as they go from building to building trick-or-treating."

Tramel said this year's event welcomed 5,000 people, which she said was a better turn out than last year's event. When your application requires crystalse no PWM (pulse-width-modulated) dimming or controlled frequency operation, The event, which was open to children up to the fifth grade, also included coloring for children and views of the facility's fire and weather safety rooms. The lights, ledbright8 however, will be dimmed overnight to avoid disturbing area residents.

"We also have inside the main facility, in one of our classrooms, we have some coloring sheets and some temporary tattoos, just simple things that the kids enjoy," Tramel said. "It's really more focused on trick-or-treating in the little town, but of course they always get to see our .Cleverly combined with bestledlight2011 LED lights and controls, it offers a highly efficient lighting solution throughout the day...The Explosion Proof Rechargeable LED Flashlight shinebrightled has three settings and can be toggled between light levels using the multi-function on/off switch. fire engine cut down to kids size and our safety house. They can see our severe weather room and our smoke bedroom and we had the Ranger's game playing that night since it was the last game of the World Series, so we had that on in one of our class rooms as well."

Fire safety clowns along with some of the facility's sponsors handed out candy and safety information. Some of the sponsors included the city of Frisco, Walmart, Babe's Chicken Dinner House, FISD and FedEx.

"FedEx is one of our sponsors and they, in conjunction with safekids .org ... provide some Halloween safety message cards for the parents. They provide glow in the dark bags and flat bracelets ..The wide 120 degree beam angle along with brightstalll the frosted glass facia makes this ideal for a wide range of general lighting applications. and the kids get to practice going to only the houses with the porch lights on and not going inside a residence," Tramel said. "A couple of our buildings are made for walk through traffic like the FedEx building, but any of our residential building[s], they're not allowed to go in because they trick-or-treat from the front porch just like you would with a normal trick-or-treat night."

Tramel said some of the safety tips children learned at the event included wearing proper nighttime attire.

"Some of the safety messages that are pushed are carrying a flash light or some sort of reflective material on your clothing ... crossing at the intersections as opposed to crossing in the middle of the street; things of that nature," Tramel said.

The event which was free of charge, also offered guests the opportunity to participate in a raffle for safety equipment like bike helmets and life vests.

Tramel said the trick-or-treat event offers the sponsors the ability to reach out to parents and their children.

"It gives them a chance to be part of the community and support Frisco Fire Safety Town at the same time," Tramel said.
